Average Age Poll

I am new to this list and have been lurking in the shadows absorbing the
wealth of knowledge being so generously transferred here. I couldn't help
noticing some remarks which give an indication of ones age i.e. Sons 18th
Birthday, 30th wedding anniversary, Pickup daughter from Uni etc etc.
So my question has no technical relevance to our beloved LC but I was
wondering what the average age of an LC owner would be (As far as this list
is concerned) and how long you have been driving a LC in one form or
another.
I am 32 and drove my first LC when I was 14!
I do have some technical question which I will compose in a separate email.
If this email is against the "Netiquette" of the list please do let me know
(No flaming please!) and I will resort to lurking!
Keep up the good work.

Hi,
I am attending my great grandaughters graduation next week. I put my
longeivity and smooth skin down to regular applications of EP90 - plus
it keeps the flies off in this hot weather !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First drove a Toyota 7 years ago, started with Sollihul products.
Please don't lurk we need more contributors.

Hi Anjam,
Geologically speaking most of us are too young to be carbon dated - I
am only 53!
On the other hand you may probably be seen by some as an old fart when
it comes to the number of years spend around landcruisers. I, for
example, have driven various 4x4s for the last 12 years and
lancruisers for five or six.
Stop lurking and share your experience!

Hi As
Now your making us all fell older than Gareth.
Geese Gareth you do look well for your age I must have missed the invite to
your great grand daughters bash, but then she was only 2 so stop making
yourself older than you actually are.
Im in the middle of the old nearly young, which I was young age group.
It is getting harder to get in and out of the cruiser as the years go on but
untill im in a wheel chair ill manage it somehow.
I do agree with Gareth ( bring on the questions , as many as you like im
sure everyone else will answer them for you, as they do tend to get fed up
with mine from time to time. Welcome and hope you enjoy absorbing all the
info.
cheers

37, "drove" my first LC when I was 7, well my father drove and I steered a
little, proper solo driving was when I was 15, haven't driven one since I
was 18 and can't wait to get mine on the road.
Re lurking, Gareth is right we need more contributors, you know this is a
friendly list, no question too stupid.
Re age, I imagine most listers will be 30+ just because running a big 4x4 is
more expensive.

You never said how old....
I'm the one who has his son's 18th birthday this weekend so it is vitally
important he buys me a pint in the pub.
And it is 50 by the way, and fit and ready for most things...

Hi,
36, I have only had my LC for 8 months. I have had Solihull stuff for 15
years but suffered one breakdown too many. Binned the Range Rover (don't
you love eBay) and bought a LC. Have not looked back since.

41, drove first 4x4 solo when about 10 (old series 1 - it was old
then!), but didn't get to drive an LC until I was 19/20 in Aus and
finally bought my first 80 back in 2000.
Unlike many here, started late with the kiddies so still changing
nappies on my youngest (10 months) and we haven't stopped yet.....!!

Hi Anjam,
I'm 35 and have had my LC for seven years. That is roughly seven times
longer than I've ever kept another vehicle...
My first 4x4 was a Suzuki LJ80 in 1990.

I dunno about youngest, how about the oldest. From all the mails I've read
so far you're all still wet behind the ears I'm 63 and going strong, I've
owned 31 cars so far.
In the days before MOT's I would run a car until I couldn't repair it any
more and then buy another cheap car to tart up, I kept track of outlay on
cars and repairs but not running costs over 11 yrs and it averaged out at
?100 a year that's what I call cheap motoring but I did have to drive some
wrecks.
Back in the mists of time my first 4x4 was an Austin Champ 3 litre RR petrol
engine 11 miles/gallon, then about '89 I got my first Toyota, a Supra, 3 yrs
later exchanged it for my first LC a 1990 80 kept that 4 yrs changed for a
Nissan 200 and a motorbike a Honda VFR 750 then sold that before I lost my
licence or my life (it was FAST) P/X Nissan for a Shogun ran that for 4 yrs
then scrapped the Shogun, broken crankshaft and bought my current transport
a 1994 80 auto currently in the process of beefing up for off roading.

Hi Anjam,
I suspect my year old daughter could classify as the youngest honourary
member of ELCO having survived and enjoyed the trip out to the plains
with me ;-)
