I use Halfords semi-synthetic 10W-40 in my 190k mile petrol Colorado. It's frequently on offer for around £15 for 5 litres. I only do a couple of thousand miles a year and think full synthetic is unjustified. My engine uses no oil between annual changes. If your circumstances are different you may need a different choice.

I use half synthetic 5W40. Just because it can be used also in my other car(mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor). Because of the additives it doesn't have that much difference with 10W40.
Toyota landcruiser 90 3.4V6 automatic with LPI conversion. 350.000 km built 1997

TBF its not critical these days, I run my V6 on 15/40 turbo diesel long drain fleet oil and you know what? its still in one piece, it runs fine and its not even changed colour.
There are modern engines though which can detect the wrong oil in them though.

i like semi synth as i think of it (rightly or wrongly) as proper oil with a dash of seal conditioner in it which i guess pays respect to our aging motors .
