Hi john
your LC is a HEAVY OIL-DRINKER!!!!!!!!!! Mine can't compare to it .
The single thing that comforts me is after 15000-km it did not used 1-
mm of oil.
I used Mobile 1 5W40 , now Toyota put some 'Toy' oil and the oil
pressure drop a little but I don't care(for now)
But I want to use 'amsoil'- only don't know which one and wait
patiently for Craig's respond...
cheers

Hi Lubo,
Amsoil 5w30 HDD, I am not a fan of mobil's 5w40 delvac1 full syn diesel
oil. You can fill in the blanks some brand new Scania trucks were using
a particular oil and all lost cam lobes on the brand new diesels all
were paid for and repaired by the oil company and a secrecy aggreement
placed over the failure.
If you switch to an extreem detergent oil such as Amsoil or Caltex CXJ
don't panic if your truck starts using oil it is common for the engine
to burn oil until the new oil strips the engine back to internally
clean. The low detergent oils don't tend to get used but gumm the engine
up further and further until a threshold (I suspect the deposits on the
sides of the piston crown build up to a level that they begin to touch
the bore regularly and slice it like a piston speed sanding machine, as
upon tear down the bores are trashed) is reached that they suddenly
start using oil and die very rapidly soon afterwards. If the engine is
mechanically sound it may or may not use oil for a while. 2-3L/10000km
is not unusal and the next oil change it will return to nrmal or better
than before. I have seen friends trucks with both CXJ and Amsoil do it
and after the initial panic they settle down again.
I have seen worn out engines run exclusively on OEM type high Ca oils
and generally overall where is minimal bores are good but the rings are
worn out which is what should occur.
Cheers,
Craig.
