Hi Guys. In the last couple of months the beast has started mildly surging while driving at constant throttle (and cruise)- happens sporadically and at lower speeds (not motorway). When this happens there tends to be a light puff of black smoke visible in the rear view mirror when the surge reduces. Doesn't happen when stationary and the throttle blipped. Runs perfectly ok - injector pump original and done 250k miles.
Recent French motorways trip yielded just over 20mpg at 85mph with top box so doesn't seem like continual over-fuelling?
My thoughts on cause are either an ECU/sensor problem or just plain worn diesel pump?
Any thoughts on most likely cause?
TIA as always.

Just read another thread....I seem to have lost some pulling power at high road speed . Used to sail up inclines fully loaded at +80mph with cruise on but now often slows to the point cruise is kicked-out. Air filter replaced a few k miles ago btw.
