brakes up grade

Hi Guys
I was watching my son playing a car game on the PS3, the way he could upgrade parts.
So it got me thinking about brakes on the cruiser.
Is it possible to upgrade the cruisers brakes to larger discs which would also involve larger calipers /pads etc.
I presume bigger wheels maybe to size 18" would also be required.
I have not seen or heard of this being done so is there a reason.
Just paid the road tax for next year on the cruiser which really is a pain at 1566 euro.
I presume its still free in France is it not.
cheers

Hi John (and everyone else as I usually only lurk),
I've been thinking about upgrading my brakes too and I think that the
only 'off the shelf' upgrade I've seen is to fit drilled DBA (Disk
Brakes Australia) disks and pads. I saw these at Man-a-Fre website
(http://www.man-a-fre.com/) in California and I'm half thinking of
getting a set shipped over. I've also heard that it's effective to
change the rubber bit of the brake hoses for braided steel ones -
certainly this works a treat with sharpening up motorycle brakes. If
you fit bigger disks and wheels, you might be compromsing on thigs like
tyre profile and wheel strength so, in my humbe opinion, it's maybe best
just to fit the best 'standard size' parts you can.
Euro 1566 for tax, btw, I feel ill on your behalf!!!
Merry Chrstmas on and all,
Andy

Hi,
I agree. I fitted some Slee extended braided brake lines to my car and
pedal feel improved. I have also experimented with all sorts of brake pads.
I imported some Bendix 4x4 pads from Oz. These improved the feel and
performance of the brakes but wore out very very quickly. I now use genuine
Toyota pads.
Make sure the system is well bled, including the rear bias valve. This also
helped pedal feel.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Andy
I was thinking more of larger discs because if one looks at some cars on the
road they have much bigger discs than the cruiser yet only half the weight
to stop.
You can get the DBA discs from AAI in Holland, I did enquire a while ago but
the PC crashed for a second time and I lost more info.
But I think it was around 500 euro.
I already know that the road tax has gone up another 10% for next year from
this budget.
So ill be paying 1722 euro next Christmas for the pleasure of driving on our
shitty roads.

Hi John,
Looking through my records your truck was registered in 12/91 so yhou
will have the smaller disks and 15" rims.
The first upgrade for your truck and any others upto 08/92 is to move to
16" rims and then fit post '92 callipers and disks on the front and swap
over the backing plates on the rear axle (which pushes the calliper
further out to accommodate the bigger disks.
If you want to get a better peddle feel, mmake sure that your callipers
are in good condition and consider upgrading to stainless steel brake
lines.
The next step is to go for slotted disks, DBA are a well know brand and
very popular down under, but they are expensive. I've fitted the UK
equivalent (3G) on a couple of trucks and they have made a big
difference and are around half the price of the DBA disks.

Hi all,
All American Imports fitted stainless hoses to mine which made a
surprising difference. Still doesn't stop as well as i'd like but much
better. AAI keep the drilled DBA disks in stock, but I think people
fit these for cosmetic purposes. Stony mud can dry in the holes and
rip your pads apart.
I've ordered a set of slotted DBA disks from AAI but they take a long
time to get sent over.
Merry Christmas,
