I’ve got the missus excited about camping 400m from a beach in north western Portugal, which also happens to have some decent off-roading tracks nearby (which I have found on WikiLoc), so we’re thinking of working remotely from the 19th and then going full camping 22nd onwards.

The idea is to have campsite as a base, and then explore surrounds off-road, to see what we can find. We want our boys to have some space & without pressure of taking down camp each morning & rushing to next campsite.

Avg temp is 10-15 so prob warmer than UK, and campsite is prob 10-20EUR per night, so it’s a cost effective Xmas holiday.

Anyone interested in joining/exploring together?

You'll have a great time.
The North part of Portugal is fantastic.
We spent 3 weeks on a route from Monte Gordo, all the way up the Spanish/ Portugese border off road, some tarmac when necessary, along the Duro Valley, ending up in the North West at Viana do Castelo...... love that area,
If time... and pennies were no issue, I'd love to do Portugal again, but next trip for me will be Morocco.
If you get a chance and like port, the Duro Valley is worth a trip, probably only 50-60 miles from where you're heading.

This was our Portugal trip back in 2017.
And then the group left at/near the end.
And our son in the heat!

We absolutely loved it and sounds like similar experience to yours.

Spent an hour yesterday poring over Douro valley map - thank you very much for that!

I am planning for something for December. I will check with my kid and mrs to see if we can join.

Well! very similar trip......... we did it in 2016 and apart from the starting and end points and a few trips we did to sights further in land, your route between Moura and Mogadoura is similar to the route we took!.
Couple of photos that might be familiar:

Well that didn’t happen ;-)
Work & life got in the way…

So now we’re planning Spain in the summer…
Will start a new thread.

Camping near the beach with off-roading tracks nearby is a great way to blend adventure and relaxation. Working remotely until the 22nd and then going full camping is a brilliant idea. Having a base camp allows for more freedom and a stress-free experience for the kids. And the mild average temperatures and cost-effective campsite make it a perfect Xmas holiday choice.

While you're out exploring, if you ever get the chance to visit theme parks usa, it could add another layer of excitement to your holiday plans. Just a thought for some future adventure.
