I have bought a 2" lift kit for my 80 and I'm now looking into getting a bigger set of mt tyres to go on it

I can't decide weather to go for 285/75/16's or 315/75/16's both would be on -32 modulars.

I have read a bit about diff problems with 35" tyres, would I face problems trying to fit 35"s to an 80 with just a 2" kit? I really don't want to go and buy a brand new set of tyres then not be happy with the size after I have fitted them!

Also does anyone have a photo of an 80 on 33's with a -32 rim?

Many thanks.

Will

"are you there Chris?"
I drove Chris's 'Grey Ghost' today on 35" BFG A/T's with a lift and it drove really well, mind, it did catch fractionally somewhere when 3/4 lock was applied. I would say Chris is the man to give you the answer.

Depends on your 80. Mine is a manual so I have choice over when to change gear. I have gone from std to 35 this week and I can't tell any difference. It still flies, will pull 5th gear at less than 40 mph. OK so the speedo is out now, but I can fix that with a diff change - or I know a wizard who has some magic powder that he can blow into the dash that will sort this if I stay on the std diffs. So he says anyway. Bloody voodoo if you ask me. Got two sets of spare diffs so I am spoiled for choice.

I have had 33's too.

These are 35". They just touch the mud flap slightly on depressed lock but I shall sort that. They're 315's on a 17" rim

These are 33" Gary has both 35's and 33's too. Standard 8J Yota rims

Not much help really, as these are 305x70x16 GG ATs (which makes them 33" I think) on a 75mm+ lift and they're zero offset 10x16 steels.

Also the car's parked on a squint

305/70/16s here too, MTs on standard rims and a 2" lift - seem to work fine, no fouling issues and look very well balanced. With a 24v 4.2 manual breaking and power delivery seem fine too....

These are 35" bfg mt's have some minor scrubbing on some plastics but nothing difficult to sort out, 2" ish lift

And on 33" (255/85r16) cooper st's fitted to stock rims, doubt these would scrub anywhere!

With the 33's you can still fit a spare underneath quite nicely too.

I've got no performance issues etc with the 35's and seems happy offroad too.
tbh found more 'issues' with the 255's but nothing backing off the loud pedal doesn't sort out

What diameter do the 285/75R16 BFG AT work out at?

Chris, I believe Great White is wearing 255/85R16 at 33" there, is this correct?

I currently run 265/70 (or 75 can't remember)R 16 BFG AT at about 32/33" on OE alloys and could be tempted by the 285s at replacement time, but isn't there a speed rating issue (Q not S or similar) and would they fit on the same rims?

Different makes also come out at wildly different diameters for the same sizes so that is worth a look if rubbing is a problem.

Correct-o-mundo there Dave. The 255 works out actually as the tallest 33" you can get. ie 33" without it being 34" Half an inch makes all the difference.

Different makes do indeed come out differently against the tape measure. Coopers and BFG seem the most honest in my experience.
