I felt a bit sick, They sound like cute little love notes.

Maybe so, but what would you expect World leaders to discuss? Not the price of fish, for sure.

But I agree, the tone and the underlying pre-meditation of toppling a sovereign state at the whim of 2 world leaders (neither of which had a pre-agreed government mandate to do so) is as sick as it gets.

We laugh at "Yes Prime Minister" where Whitehall is portrayed to steer the ministers in Government, but Blair as PM clearly overstepped the mark on this one, and got it wrong, all in one foul swoop.

Chilcot does not say Blair lied though. Just that everything was a cock up. I remember seeing John major on the Mar show warning about the aftermath if we should topple Sadam. Even he was not pessimistic enough in hindsight.

I think he got it right for his own interests and that of those who sought to profit from it. He just got it wrong for those who we sent to war and those on who we waged war and the ensuing power vacum and overspill into adjacent countries. They are only slaughtering each other en masse in Syria from what started in Iraq.
Handing Iraq to a Shia government supported by Iran only made the Sunni powers a little jumpy hence their bankrolling the current shitstorm in Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Pakistan, Yemen and wherever else the salafist/Wahabbi/Saudi money gets spent
