Cleaning Windows !!!

Hy All,
Anyone any good ideas about how to clean the moss and crud out of the rear
window sliders on an 80 Series Cruiser.
I,ve just spent about 2 hrs removing mud, sand, moss and other rubbish out
of these things, and I wouldn't say they are great even now, just better.
Anyone ever take out one of these units, or otherwise remove the glass ?
I'm thinking at this stage that it would be better to have a single fixed
piece of glass in here instead of the sliders.
After all, with Air-con. who needs to open these windows anyway.

Hi Mik.,
I was looking at mine over the weekend with a view to tackling them.
I have always used a green brillo/scrubby, soapy water and also a flat bladed
screwdriver (with flat sides) that is wide and deep enough to scrape the
runner bottoms and sides.
When you have stinky wet dogs in the back they are very handy for keeping you
conscious in the front.
I also open them up when there is a lot of damp in the vehicle and run with
the heaters on full.

Just about the same as I did it. Tell you what though, I found it easier to
remove as much crud as possible dry,
i.e. before adding any water. I also used a screwdriver, and a flexible
palet knife to push a rag past the felt seal between the two panes of glass.

Good point, but no dogs !
Thanks Julian, I'm still thinking of re-placing the sliders with a single
pane of glass. I'll let you know if I get anywhere.

Mik,
You may find it usefull to know that the imports only have the
one pane, so it is an available fitment.

Hi there Clive
Does that mean that there would be a dry cargo area with mist free glass and
no more rusted jack or is that too much to hope for , any ideas odf cost.
Thanks

John,
I can't help with cost but looking for an import that is being
broken for spares is a good place to start. Yes it is dry and mist
free, it's a standard Toy. fitting in Japan, and who knows where else.
If you ever see mine you will witness one.

Hi Clive,
Do you have the third row of seats?
Just wondering if the 3rd row resulted in opening window.

Julian,
No, I don't have third row seats, nor the mounting hardware. This
is probably a good guess at where the rear opening windows came from.

Thats good to know Clive, I'll make a few enquiries, though the cost may
well be horrendous for the genuine Toyota item.
