On it's way finally to have it's upgrade/conversion.
FTE engine, bigger turbo and intercooler and 8HP gearbox. Should hopefully be done in a month.
Should make it better on the road when towing the Metalian trailer and better off road when green laning.
 
Is that the donor towing the 80?
Are you doing thre work, if not who.is being trusted with it all?

Making an 80 Evo, 8hp will transform the driving
 
I've seen big US V8's transplanted into 80 series but I've often wondered if the petrol V8 (2UZ-FE) from the 100 series would fit. A whole lot more work no doubt than fitting a later 1H series diesel but doable I suppose if you have deep enough pockets. With any of the later engines one of the biggest challenges will be the electronics and wiring IMO so, in that respect, a 1HD-FTE makes sense. It also has more electronic control but relatively simple compared to modern stuff.

No Felix, the 100 is my trusty tow rig. The engine came from a 100 I bought very cheap but with FSH, done 180K. I supplied it with the whole front end and gearbox loom.
This isn't a project for the faint hearted but the guy does M57/M606/8HP conversions all the time so I reckon it will be a finished/turn key and drive away jobbie.

I will follow this with interest. Is exactly what I would like to do. Wink4x4 do a kit for matching the 8HP to the FTE. Probably the best diesel engine and auto transmission combo you can put in an 80.
