Crud in Diesel fuel tank

Hi All,
I have a problem with my Diesel HD80.
There is some crud in the fuel tank, that intermittently
blocks the pick up pipe.
Is there away of getting access, say through the fuel sender etc,
without having to remove the tank from underneath?
On my other car there is a plate under the rear seat.
That you can remove the sender and fuel pump through.
This leaves a 6 inch hole in to the top of the tank.
Anything similar on an 80 ?

Hi Rob
There is indeed a small hatch just under the second rear seats which will
give you full access.

Hi Rob,
As others have said, you need to remove the 2nd row of seats and then
under the carpet you will find an inspection hatch revealing the top of
your tank and fuel sender/pickup unit.
When you pull out the fuel pickup, be careful with the plastic filter
on the end - these have been known to break when disturbed. You might
actually want to consider getting a replacement filter just in case.
Assuming your tank is near empty, I have found a basting pipette (for
cooking) to be quite handy for sucking up water and other crud from the
bottom of the tank, although make sure you wash it properly before
putting it back in the kitchen drawer ;-)

Thanks Julian and Guys,
I thought there might be one. I didn't relish having to remove the tank to
do this otherwise.
I've only just back into using the 'net' again after (almost) completing a
rather building project that has been taking all my time.
Plus, I've only just my PC back up and running. I lost my Outlook PST file.
So my emails of several years are gone. That'll teach me to back it up, and
store it away regularly :-(
Now I'm back and almost 'square', is there any off-road events planned in
the near future? Salisbury etc?
