I've looked through the handbook and can't find anywhere the kerb weight of
an 80 series, it must be in there somewhere, but I'm sure someone out there
knows?

Hi Chas,
From memory it's about 2900lbs, but may be wrong.

Just got mine weighed last Saturday - part of requirements for changing tax class to commercial - saves =801,000 /year on road tax ;-)
Was 2640KG with the rear seats out & half a tank of juice. Assuming that's classed as kerb weight
But I heard somewhere that the jap 80's were heavier than the UK models........

Hi Niall
So what hoops do you have to jump through to get it classed as commerical
then.
Surly not just taking out the rear seats. Just curious.

Alright John
Glad to hear your back on the road - and can stop! By the looks of things an 80 dosent fair too well in a head on =3D- better to head for the ditch and take a chance on landing in a nice soft bog hole - something which I did 2 months ago
Anyway - Re - what hoops do you have to jump through to get it classed as commercial
1. Rear seats & seat belts out.
2. Treads of Bolt holes for rear seats drilled out & filled with chemical metal
3. Rear windows blanked out with aluminimum panels - stuck on with a few dabs of silicone so they can fall off..... oops
4. DOE Cert
5. Weight docket
I'm hoping to get away with drilling out bolt holes - as I want to put one of the seats back in for overlanding (nice looking lassies always travel in pairs) - the otherside being taken up with a fridge. The room in the back will be filled with a 3 level shelving/storage system - working on a design at the moment that will accommodate overlanding but can be easily adapted to carry scuba equipment when in Ireland.
Then its =80300 tax per year instead of =801,400 :)
Cheers

Re road tax in Eire
The bigger the engine the more you pay - the guts of 1400 for a 4.2 LC
- Passenger
So the Yaris beats the Curuiser once again!!
Julian - are you sure you should be looking for a 100 series - a yaris
is begining to look like a better bet!! You could open up a Yaris forum
- Ha ha - the thought of it!

Hi Niall
Ok but no need to say too much about the 1000 euro you will save on the road
tax , just makes me feel ill every year having to pay that.
Thanks for the info.
