Denso Fuel Pump Service

Parked next to the a larger 100 series worked on removing the fuel pump for a much needed service guys.

Issues were vibrations, lack of power, economy and the pump running inadequately over the top end after 75kph.

Although a mild service was given with seals and shaft changing a few years back with the engine rebuild the guys were unable to align the calibration of the internals to run stock.

Thankfully in the city here Denso are going to see its current standing and align back to stock with Toyota's mapping. Better still hoping for a little better upgrade as I've mentioned having a intercooler, larger exhaust and soon to be larger turbo so the guys going to map it a little higher because of this.

Fingers cross in next few days hopefully will yield a great result. Was a bit of a fiddly job taking it out so gonna be the same to put it back.

What I meant was a machine to access the calibration from a specialist Karl. This is where they have it on a dyno pump bench machine.

Will you be taking the pump apart yourself Dervis? I notice that you have the ASCD unit on the side burried under the throttle linkages. You can make a blanking plate to remove that and join the 2 water pipes together. Just be carefull to use the right length allen key bolts as if too long they go through and catch the moving part inside.
The camplate could be worn if not performing above 75kph. You will need a dail gauge setup to get the timing bang on when you refit it back on. Interesting to see what you come up with.

Hi there no I'm not doing anything hence giving its to Denso the specialist. Not sure about ASCD pipes as to your recommendation probably gonna leave it the same if theirs no benefit?

Sad bad news just had an update looking at 450-500 euros in parts for now guys

Will have more details tomorrow before looking into all options.

The WSM shows the Toyota timing tool. It works on a fulcrum measurement. Now the fulcrum is bang in the middle of the tool so you can still just use the timing figure in WSM if you are doing a straight measurement in to the pump. A measured movement whether with factory tool or alternatively a gauge straight in to pump. It's a bit tight hence the fulcrum design tool.

Just an update Guys getting it rebuilt now with various new parts needed that should yield a great result soon after fitting it back.

The Denso specialist did say I did well to take it out before things got even worse or to have broken that could have been catastrophic. Fingers crossed

Guys finally after almost a month got the fuel pump back from Denso. Almost a full rebuild and tuned 20% more for performance upgrades. Fitting tommorrow now so time will tell....look forward to getting the old girl back on the road

Did they agree to tune outside of Toyotas envelope ? I would cover all the entry/exit points to stop dirt getting in whilst fitting. Nice.

They tuned it for the intercooler and better flow exhaust Frank. Hard to tell as yet as I'm not had much time to drive it much.

So far guys the fuel pump has better response and quiter adding to the smoothness. Fuel efficiency looks better but not tested as yet.

Two issues currently need to correct to access the progress better. One is the SENSOR, OIL PRESSURE switch shown below. One is missing on the truck and the other idk because the turbo light has come on the dash the first day of testing. These sensor vacuum pipes connect to the top of the fuel pump. Not sure what they do but certainly important enough to get this sorted and replaced. Any ideas?

Second issue is the main fuel tank may be dirty enough having run SVO for a few years and driving over 120kmh seems the fuel delivery may be restricted, so today blew some compressed air into the fuel hose back to access any improvement. Not sure as yet because of the first issue.

Gonna take the tank out and clean whilst adding the second overland tank & accessories next month so will know better then.
