diff oils

Hi Guys
Checked my rear diff oil and found a milky white looking oil in the diff.
Just wondering if diff oils come in this colour as I have not seen any.
I got it back from Toyota yesterday after them fitting a new flange and seal
at the rear diff.
Just wondering if they could have filled it with this milky diff oil
smelling stuff.
I changed it just to be certain.

seal )and they are obviously incapable of it. The oil had been
contaminated (most likely with water) before they laid their hands on
your LC.

I knew I was right or at least nearly right but as usual I have to make sure
because I still doubt myself.
I also thought that maybe, just maybe they would have changed the diff oil
as they were working on that area anyway.
But I suppose I should really cop myself on and not assume they would do as
i would.
Is it no wonder I dont trust all these guys at all but yet need them because
I cant do the jobs.
Yea sure your right about the contamination..
I checked the extended breather which runs up the side of the channel of the
rear upper door and it had moved and the filter i had on it was gone.
Dont ask me how I didn't do it, but I reakon water from that channel got
into the diff breather which was pointed upwards.
This breather also seemed to be blocked.
I think this combination wrecked the diff seal aswell.
I have to bring the cruiser to another injector pump guy next week because
the one that did the original job has washed his hands of the problem or
should I say cant fix the problem and has given up.
So much for this specialist ha.
Another few years and I will have a brand new cruiser after replacing all
the bits that have gone wrong.

What diameter breather hoses do you have?

I'm upsizing mine because I rekon with the extended length you need a good diameter to counter act the friction/capilary effect - ie I think they'll work better if you have a good diameter tube off them..

Hi Niall,
If you are doing this, don't forget to drill out the holes in the
fittings on the axle - as standard these are only about 1-1.5mm and can
be drilled out to about 5-6mm.
I use 6mm (internal) 8mm external plastic air brake line pipe for
breathers and then use the plastic snap on connectors to join them all
up as I run the pipe into the air box - leaves a nice tidy job and
there aren't problems with the negative pressure from the air box.
You can get the hose and the fittings from your local truck parts
suppliers.
