Early 80 alternator cable adapter.

Hi Paul, I've just put a 100 series alternator on my 80, I think you need the adjuster bracket as well.
Hi Andy,

If you mean the bracket that bolts to the block that the alternator then sits in, I have that already.

Or, do you mean the belt tensioner bracket?

Oh okay, I was told it was the alternator mounting bracket that was different.

I will get mine off later this week and offer the 100 alternator up and see what things look like.

Thanks for the heads up Andy.

@Bat21 can you keep this thread updated with the parts needed to do the conversion.
I'm lazy and saves me searching if your doing the job anyway

The tensioner bracket is just slightly different for the slightly bigger 120 amp alternator. You can buy the correct bracket for a 100, or modify the 80 bracket with a die grinder or similar. If you have time to wait for a new bracket, I'd go for that, but keep the old one if you're keeping the old 80 amp alternator as a spare.

Another option is just buy and splice in a 3 pin connector. That's probably the way I'd go TBH.

Thanks TP. I did think of that before exploring the patch cable route.... will see what Felix can do with the cables from the US first.

A mate of mine is in Florida currently, I am looking at doing the same upgrade. I'll get 2 posted to his hotel now. If its wrong I'll take the hit on the price. ...

He's coming back on Friday, have paid for faster shipping. Just hope it makes it to him by then!
Did they make it there yesterday?

Well.... I started to do this but started struggling with vision.

I had an operation to reattach a detached retina 4 weeks ago, the op was successful but I now have a cataract in that eye. The only way to get things in focus in that eye are to have them at 12", that's 300mm for you kids here.
So I'm struggling, might end up waiting until I have two functioning eyes before continuing.

I ended up removing the drivers side battery tray to give me more room, not a problem as I have done the 12v starter conversion so there was no battery in it.

I need to remove the Aircon compressor to give better access to the alternator adjusting bracket which needs be replaced following Andy's advice above.. This bracket is held on by two bolts that also bolt the water pump to the block. I hope removing these won't cause the water pump to leak, if it does will the pump need removing and resealing or will it reveal once the new bracket and bolts are reinserted, @Jon, @Andy?

Looks like this is the bracket for the larger alternator, this is probably the existing bracket.

There have been some big storms in Florida with a load of flooding. So the delivery is delayed till monday.
But I have another colleague who is staying there longer who will bring them back.

Thanks for the write up so far. Will get a parts order in once your done

Hope your vision recovers properly soon too!

Yep Paul, I hope your vision returns soon too.
As I remember I removed the air compressor bolts and moved the unit out of the way to get to the bolts holding the bracket. It was @Jon Wildsmith that told me about the bracket being different as it came off his old 80 and I put the 100 series alternator and bracket onto my 80. There was no effect on the water pump.

Thank you @Andy

Good to hear the water pump doesn't get disturbed.
I think I will get all the bits so they are ready to fit once my vision gets back to some kind of normality.

I've had those bolts out a few times now without it causing any problems.
