Electric Antenna Not working-Where to start?

Ok guys this is the first DIY attempt on my 100 series so I thought I would
start with something "relatively" safe and won't take the car off road if I
screw up! The automatic antenna does not go up or down when you switch the
radio on/off or if you use the manual switch on the dashboard, no noise from
the motor. I have had the 100 series about 3 months now and the lack of
Radio is driving me nuts!
Where do I start? Is there a fuse I can check or do I get under the wing and
check for loose connections etc and then suspect the worst i.e. dead motor.
I have tried to pull the aerial up with my fingers so I can at least get
some radio until I get it working but I couldn't get it up (Story of my life
but lets not go there!). Would it be ok to use some "moderate" force using a
pair of pliers?
Please excuse the mundane nature of my question, although I more or less
understand what's going on in my cars I don't do a lot of DIY which I am
hoping to change slowly.
Julian> I haven't forgotten about your pictures, I finally managed to get
home in daylight and then realised the batteries were flat in the digital
camera! Will have some for you tomorrow/Saturday.

Hi Anjam,
Firstly I wouldn't try to force it just yet.
First thing to do is to get someone to play with the buttons whilst you listen
by the aerial to see if you can hear the motor.
If you cannot hear anything the next thing to do is to check the manaul to see
if it has a fuse for the aerial. If you can't find anything, just look for the
fuse boxes they tend to list the fuses within them.
In the 80 the main fuses are behind a panel just down to the right of the
steering column, the 100 may well be the same - when you remove the panel it
should list the fuses on the back of it.
One question, is it the factory radio or a 3rd party one?
Also, does the aerial have any structure on the top of it (usually a
cylindrical cut) tha you could put a key in to pull it out? The electrical
aerial might have broken and the PO (previous owner) might have replaced it
with a cheap non electical one.

It is a Toyota Sat Nav system but was installed a few years back not factory
fitted.

Didn't think of that! I will have a look.
Thanks for your time.
