[exhausts]

Hi Guys
Julian I had a look at my exhaust and your right again just over the back
axle there is a joint that is fairly rusted and other bits here and there.
So today I decided to look at exhausts on the web, well I will never look at
an exhaust again and see a steel pipe that just pumps out smoke.
Its amazing what this metal thing does or does not do in the case of the
stock exhausts. It would seem that to improve the power, torque, fuel you
would have to replace the manifold with a better one and then get a custom
made exhaust of stainless steel in a good grade steel. You would have to
ensure that no crimping of the exhaust happens at any of the bends. Which
means you need to ensure you get an axhaust that has been bent using the
mandrel system so as to ensure the pipe stays the same diameter all the way
even at bends. The way its better to have the correct bore size that having
it too big because this will result in in lose of tempreture along the pipe
and so cause problems in the pulses from the engine manifold. It also seems
important that the muffilers should not restrict the flow. Im sure there are
other things but wow it can be a lot of info especially when you want to
make the cruiser better. I sent off a few e-mails and I will let you know
what happens if anything.
Thanks

Morning John,
The most common problems I have seen is holes rusting through where the pipe
goes up and over the rear chassis member.
As a rough guide, the recommendation for an 80 is to move to a 3" pipe for
better flow and to help the turbo spin up easier, although they are rare in
the UK, you will have to get them custom made.
Also you will more likely find a 2.5" exhaust around, but this is mainly
because most mandrel bending machines only go up to that size.
I believe that Marteen at All American in the Netherlands can supply either
a 2.5 or 3" exhaust for the 80, but can't remember the price, I think that
it is around ?450 for a full system.

Hi Roman
Did you really say you had an exhaust made for ?120. How much of an exhaust
did you get for that money, was it didfferent to the normal sttock exhaust.

Hi Roman,
What size and spec?
Assuming deals like this are available to other LC owners I'll try to
find some way of listing the suppliers on the website.

Hello guys,
You didn't ask me "where" only "what" :)
Well, it's a company near Poznan in Poland.
Anyway, it's steel, using original toyota cans (they can also do the
cans if required), with pipes custom bent to your requirements. The
only difference from stock pipes is that the bends are not drawn but
staggered.
For the price charged by local exhaust shops you get a nice trip
thrown into the deal for free.

Hi Guys
I know its still early so good morning or as is the case here not so good
weather wise. While I was looking at all things to do with exhausts
yesterday, i found items about exhaust paint and just wondered if the
exhaust rots from the inside or outside in. I tried to price the exhausts
here from loads of different suppliers and guess what. Yes your right the
usual same crap that I always get sorry not listed for that landcruiser are
you sure its not the 3 litre one. After a few ones that that I felt like
saying, well I wont go into that. So it would seem that I can only get an
exhaust from my favourate place called Toyota. Since I will be going through
the UK in three weeks yes its only three weeks to the holiday cant wait,
thats why I am checking all these things. I got a sample quote for a
stainles steel one in the UK for ?489 and starts fromthe exssiting front
pipe to the rear and has a life time warranty. Still to me thats a lot of
euro thats why im trying to see if I can do better. See I was thinking if I
bought a normal exhaust and gave it a few coats of the exhaust paint before
its put on or after its on would that not stop it from rusting.

Hi Guys
Just to fill you in . I phoned Ianat long life exhausts in Bristol with a
few more questions and the cost for the 3 inch would be ?500 plus vat from
the back of the turbo. It will take a good half day to fit and he would give
me a car to see the sites of Bristol. When you concider that Milner want
?98, ?131, ?105, ?115 for the various parts for the exhaust, and then you
have to fit aswell. Can you imagine me fitting an exhaust no way Jose. So
this seems like a good idea and one I may take up on later. I would have to
get the ferry over and all that so its a little more messy for me.

John, I am only half an hours drive from the centre of Bristol. I think
I shall call in to see them. I will let you know how I get on.
Gareth.

Guys, and john in ireland
This is what I'm intending to do, I spoke to the longlife exhaust people on the weekend and they do seem to offer a good deal for me, plus I get another car for half a day, so I reckon it can't be bad.
I've got to get another job and a place to live first so won't be doing any exhaust stuff for a couple of months. And I've more or less decided that longlife will do for me.
John, you could come and stay with me, there is one extra available parking place and I have a spare room in my current flat (with is separate from all the other rooms so you have total privacy) - cheaper than getting B&B and then paying for evening meals too, and I could show the bristol sights to you aswell.

Geese thats an offer and thank you very much. I think I might get bashed by
the wife and then given the two thousand question time or maybe three
thousand seeing as how it can be one thousand if im late back from
somewhere. I am thinking of coming over to just do cruiser parts because on
this trip I cant get rid of the family, but I am a thinking. Gareth is in
wales, you are in Bristol, Julian is fairly near to the area, longlife is in
Bristol, Amsoil agent somewhere in Devon. Have to find out where Milner is
for parts, and maybe some fun in the Cruisers aswell. Well I may as well
dream here as any where. When I come back from France the shocks and springs
are going on them the new wheels and tyres. Im still looking for a guy to
cut some meatal for the underbelly but am getting there slowly.
