Fog light button doesn't turn off tailgate fogs and its because i fitted a new tow socket , any pointers ?

Shouldn’t make any difference, assume you just tapped the fog wire at the back? Disconnect it- MoT-reconnect…

So are you fogs now always on with your headlights? I’d start by checking the switch.

Yes on with headlights , I guess it doesn't need to be connected in the tow socket at all .

Disconnecting jumper wire turns them off but now nothing when dash switch is pressed .

Switch gives no indication if on or off , like pressing a sponge , is that normal ?

God knows , i haven't even got my trailer board to help out .

Think i will mess about with it until 2pm and then jerry rig the fogs direct to battery via a switch .

The switch doesn't light up, at least on mine it doesn't. There is a warning light on the far left of the dashboard.
The switch is a passive latching type so the actual button position is the same on or off.

Use of rear fog lights at night in clear condition is deemed a hazard to following vehicles so, potentially a MOT fail.

When you plug in a caravan or lighted trailer the tailgate foglights should be disabled.

I would check the tow socket wiring.

Yeah I fitted a new socket not long ago which took me all day because the wires had rotted loose but no matter what I do I can’t get a reaction from the switch .

No
Fog fuse seems weird on a UK spec 80 ?

I’ve taken the socket off and now no fog lights

No dash fog indicator either and not the switch because her 90 has the same so i swapped them ?

A missing fuse means nopower to fog circuit. It sounds like the fog lights were connected to the lighting circuit at the tow socket some how.

No theres no pins to hold a fuse in that socket .

Must be an inline fuse somewhere ?

unless the jumper cable i put in my socket to get it working needs to go somewhere is . I just refitted the socket without jumper and everything works except the fog lights .

Rain just started which is a nuisance because i suspect the garage i use will happily print off a pass if i just pull up outside and flash the fogs .

This is interesting. I've just checked mine and there is no "Fog" fuse!
The owner's manual shows "NoCircuit" for the fog light fuse so they must be wired into the headlight circuit.
I seem to remember reading something somewhere that the rear fogs for UK soec 80's were added by Toyota UK after import?

That helps , I'm thinking if i jump from tail light (headlights) to the fog light in socket it might reintroduce the switch .

That failed to post , forum is very difficult to use for some reason gotta post everything twice freezes ?

That didn't work anyway i have either full time on or full time off . Wondering if there is a relay that might have failed ?

Took it apart again today to clean up mashed wire ends and silicone seal it . Realized while at it that headlights not just sidelights need to be on for rear fogs to work which actually makes no difference when your working at the back of the truck so i bet i wasted a lot of time failing because only side lights were turned on
