Few days in central Bulgaria

Three conditions: 1) Ethno towns and villages 2) has to be a week day and not on a weekend 3) average of 100kms a day.
Monday mornig got my chance and did not miss it Around noon I left Sofia and head to the historic town of Koprivshtitza.

How nice to see clean streets, no litter.

Romania lets itself down so badly with garbage dropped everywhere. It's improving slowly, but it will take a few generations IMO...

It's been almost the same around here not long ago.Not as bad as in Romania. People start to realize awhile ago the importance of not littering....

After a day in Koprivshtitza was time to move on to the next destination - town of Apriltsi. To get there I had to cross Stara Planina mountains. Bulgaria is divided to north/south sides by Stara Planina Mountains across east/west.It has a few crossings and I chose the one from village of Karnare to the town ot Troyan on the other(north) side.

Stoped by Troyan monastery. There I met few italian overlanders. They were on the way to Turkey.

I might crib the route you've taken and take a long weekend in Bulgaria. As a visitor, some of these historic places are less easy to find.Thanks for posting, is there more?

Really like all that wood!

Those days will never return, so it's good to see the old stuff being preserved.

My uncle managed a flour water mill at a village called Yafford on the Isle of Wight (UK) when I was a kid, the whole building was made of stone and wood and old enough to have an entry in the Doomsday Book. It's listed under Shorwell but it was always Yafford mill to us.

All the mechanical parts were made from wood, massive cogs and spindles driving the grinding stones. It's a tea room cafe now and I'm very reluctant to visit, it will destroy all my memories.
