Well after years of owning different 4x4's I've finally got my landcruiser. I've been looking for a good project base for the past 3 years now. Everytime I've had the cash I couldn't get the right car and everytime the right car came around I was skint. Two and a half years ago myself and my brother in law looked at a heavy duty 70 and long story short it turned out that the lad selling it stripped all the good stuff off it and was trying to sell crap........for more than he originally bought the cruiser for. He's a well known trader in Ireland........we ran......very fast lol. I twice found good cars abroad, Holland and Germany, but because I was emailing from so far away they thought I was scamming and the sales fell through. I've also walked from a few rust buckets and cars that were just too much for me to take on.
So it's a vx70. Rust in usual places. Interior complete but bit shabby tbh. Think the head might be cracked but planning on engine replacement anyway. Brother in law bought a vx70 for a doner for his project the day before I got mine so some of the parts are already sourced.http://

So anyway I'm overseas atm and that gives me a bit of time to plan my project and shopping list. I'm going to be using a few lads cars here as inspiration and also a few unlikely cars aswell including the Finnish U.N. g-wagons. I'll take a couple of snaps of one and give ye an idea of what I'm on about tomorrow

Watching this build with interest, so let's have some step-by-step photos and explanations. Not just for us to see your progress, but it will be a record for yourself of what you have done and when you did it. I regret not having kept a record of my 80 build.

That looks like the basis of a good project there Doyle. I do like the 70s with round headlights. Looking forward to seeing it progress back to the condition it should be in. As Clive says, plenty of photos please and I'm intrigued to see the Finnish wagon.

looks like you have a bit of rust around.
on mine I put a piece of transparent hose before the fuel filter and a rusted fuel tank
pipe was the reason air was comming through the fuel lines. its a typical issue with old cruisers. on lj73 it involved dropping the tank.
also, the fuel neck above the tank can be affected by rust and its not easy to see it because of the protection plate on the inner arch.
while u look at it, might be good to pull the inner side panels and have all sills inspected.

Cheers lads. I'll def be taking photos alright but think this project might take a bit of time. I'm at the planning and research stage for next few months till I get home and then I'll be gathering components and parts. I'll also be getting a bit of experience by helping my brother in law out with his project, he has a 70 aswell. Some of the ideas I have so far: I like odings 60 series and I'm going to use some of his ideas such as the way he layed out the carling switches in the can. I'm tempted to use the same colour he used aswell. Ben's 70. Well of course that has given me lots to think about.I'm probably going to do rocksliders similar to his ones. I love the bumbers he made and I'm really tempted to have a go at making a set for myself. Im at a crossroads though because i also love the standard toyota chrome ones so have a bit to think about there. I said about the Finnish U.N. g-wagons. I have a couple of photos here and what I like is the bullbar and the way it marries up to the bumper. I like the snorkel but have to source them and price them. It's genuine merc as far as I know. I like the tow hitch, nice and neat but I also like the detachable type you see in America so again things to think about. Also take a look at the release catch for the wheel swing atm, I like that and have an idea for using it as a mounting point for a high lift back.
