FW An introduction - not too sure if the first one got through

Hi all,
I thought I ought to introduce myself as I am new to the list. I am Rev
Andrew Renshaw, in Hartlepool at the moment and in the next few weeks taking
an appointment in Peterhead. I have four kids and so need a large car.
I have been into Land Rovers over the last six years but after seeing the
Land Cruisers coping with the desert in The Sahara, I have decided to start
actively looking for a 4.2 Diesel LC with at least seven seats.
I plan on returning to Africa in a couple of years time and I would prefer a
Land Cruiser Automatic with Air Con. So I am avidly looking on e-bay. I
don't want anything to new as I like to work on cars myself.
Yours
Andy

Yes it did appear. I should think everyone is hanging back waiting for
Julian Voelcker, who runs the list, to give you a welcome. He has just
bought himself an all new personal communicator come computer come pda
come microwave oven etc, so he's probably in digital purgatory somewhere
trying to restore connectivity to the list with the help of a 2 pound
hammer!
So welcome to the list, and good luck with your search.

Welcome Andy.
We are a very friendly and mainly sane bunch here so you should be OK.
As for Julian - I have the same Star Trek communicator as he (under a
different badge) and can connect to the Interweb with it with little
trouble. So if I can do this then I'm sure that Julian can; there must be
some other reason why he's quiet.... perhaps he got trapped in a nappy
avalanche??! Should we contact International Rescue just in case?? :)

Or in my case looking to see where Peterhead is, answer a long way north,
over 400 miles from me.
I promise myself one day I will get into Scotland "proper" rather than the
Borders, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Welcome to the list and what Land Rover do / did you have, just for
reference as a starting point, quite a few on the list have or had Land
Rovers, I don't count my Freelander though.

Hiya Malcolm.
I started out with a 200TDI Disco, then progressed to a Series 3 88 inch
SWB, Then had a Defender 110 CSW for our trip into Africa, France, Spain,
Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia. Now have a Discovery 300TDI XS AUTO
Japanese Import - it is gorgeous.
Suspect I want to get a Series 3 and have a Land Cruiser.

Hi Andrew,
Welcome aboard.
Unfortunately my wireless network doesn't (yet) extend out to our
paddock where I have been busy fencing (and dont' we have just the
weather for that!!!) in preperation for our two Gloucester Old Spots
pigs that I picked up this morning - looks like it's pork for
CHristmas, yum yum!
As for searching for an 80, there are plenty around. Do look on ebay
as well as check out Autotrader. If you need any help getting one
checked out on the other side of the country, post the details to the
list - someone is bound to step forward offer to look at it for you.

There you are: I said his pda thingy wouldn't work, and that he'd be
using a big hammer...
Julian, what are the pigs called? And will the children let you do the
dirty deed when the time comes?

Hi Christopher,
It works a treat, just the disadvantage of living in an old house - 12-18"
solid stone walls - nothing gets through it - am aiming to put a wireless
aerial on the office chimney (the stone one, not me) to cover the
surrounding area.
Boogey (or is it "ie") and Fruit and they are looking forward to tasting
happy pork from our happy pigs!!
They are pretty down to earth, although can't understand why I don't just
shoot them when the time comes as opposed to sending them off to get
someone else to do it. Having said that, they do consider shooting them
in their pen would be a bit un-sporting.

I'd be interested if you find a solution to boosting the power of the
wireless network, as I have the same problem with thick walls. I was
planning a wireless link to my office, but instead I ended up stringing
up a 65 metre catenary of network cable, supported by a double strand of
stainless electric fencing wire, which turned out to be cheaper as well
as giving 100 BaseT.
Occasionally one daughter's PC struggles to see the router via the
wireless PCI card I added, although I found that soldering a piece of
wire onto the poxy little aerial they put on these cards, to bring it up
to roughly half the wavelength, helped a bit.
I'm impressed that the progeny don't suffer from cuddly-furry syndrome
about food. One of mine suddenly turned vegetarian when she was 11,
which doesn't do much for family mealtimes when the rest of us are
carnivorous.
Sorry everyone: networks, children and pigs don't have much to do with
Landcruisers! We're off to Italy in mine on Sunday, so I've blown up
the tyres, topped up the washer bottle, and - really impressive -
changed the oil. Oh, and put a GB sticker on it too.
