Some of you might have seen the posting below by on the LCML by Willem-Jan
Markerink, I am sure he wouldn't mind it being on ELCO.

....with 28 specially designed Cayenne's?
Things don't seem to work as planned....)

PS: a certain Rod Millen is participating too....:))

(who had Mongolian tourguides in a HDJ80 and a Mitsu L400 struggling to keep
up
with me, in a Volvo C306/6x6, last year; not by sheer power, but by
suspension/stability, especially when crossing dozens of deep parallel
tracks
diagonally....flatout where a 4x4 risks dangerous
oscillating....bogie-tandem
rear axles say hi!....;))

As I posted in a reply on LCML;
OK so they bought the vehicle three weeks before the rally, prepared it in
ten days and are leading after day 12 (and haven't had a puncture yet) -
that is good.
Hope they win - if a Porsche Cayenne is $90K there are must be 2.5 million
dollars of Porsche behind a 1993 80 series.
Their home page is at http://www.tbwb.co.uk/index.php, click on the drivers
tab and there is a link to the blog.

Hi Malcolm,
He's actually on the list here, but very quiet!
Unfortunatly I have just looked at the results for today and the UK
team doesn't feature in the top 10 anymore.

Apologies Willem-Jan,
I do vaguely remember you posting on ELCO. Have to say I check your web
site every once in a while to see what gems of information you have found,
4x4 and photography.

I get the Porsche press releases and they're making a lot of it.
However, a Cayenne hit a 2 metre wide ditch yesterday......... R.I.P.
Spent a bit of time in a Cayenne in Sweden in February and have to
say, the are actually quite good off road, it's just that they're
always bought by bloody footballers in the UK. Shame, really.

Some great pictures there - and on the Transsiberian site.
Would be some craic to do it - you might be able to get into the
vintage class! - I'll do support crew if you want :)
I think Roaming Yak was headed out that way - anybody heard from him
lately?

Hi Niall,
Darrin's contracting in London at the moment, saving pennies and
refurbishing his landy. Still can't pursuade him to get an LC,
although he's planning on hitting Aus reasonably soon and will be
looking to pick up a Troopie out there.

.=2E. and bankers. My brother (big shot in UBS) has one - the twin turbo
400+ bhp version. Bloody impressive car, although his wife hates it!
It made my 80 series seem very 20th Century ... although I'm willing to
bet that my 80 will still be driving around in 10 years time, whereas
the Porsche will have gone to that great wine-bar in the sky because it
is too complex & expensive to keep going.

Thre'll be no stopping the Yak then!
Cheers

PS - How much fun would it be to do that TransSiberia rally!! - Wonder
could I reverse my trip next year and driving back from SA instead of to
SA and joining the 2008 rally on the way back! I dream a dream........

Well the rally goes on, the blog amazes me, blogging from Mongolia. It
sounds as if the Cayenne is just too fast in the Desert, the crashes sound
severe.
The Toyota team mention camping next to Rod Millen and chatting - wow!
Here is a link to a concept car Rod Millen did with Toyota around 1999.

Here is a link to his company web site http://www.millenworks.com/html/
And here is a link from the company site to a "MillenWorks" FJC that did the
Baja 1000.
The blog says he admitted to owning a Land Cruiser! (Wonder what he thinks
of the 80 series - perhaps he wishes he was in it!)
