If anyone is interested I can get various PMR's at trade price.
The BT Freeway are particularly good value
If anyone is interested then let me know and I can get them to bring
with me to the meet.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the kind offer - do you know what sort of price they would
come to?
Are there any differences in performance for different makes, like
mobile phones?
And finally, I assume you would be able to charge them up for the day?

There is a 446 users' forum, and they have a reviews page: see http://www.446user.co.uk/review_index_all.html.
In my experience avoid the cheap ones with AAA size batteries because they don't last for a day's reasonable use. Those that can take 1.3 Amphour NiMH AA size batteries seem to be a better bet.

Sorry for the late reply, I missed this post earlier.
Prices for PMR's from my supplier vary from about ?18 a pair of cheapy
BT battery ones up to about ?135 each for the top of the line Motorolas.
The BT Freeway Pro are rechargeable and work out at ?42 a pair.
If anyone has a preference then email me or post here with specific
model details and I'll find out.
I would have to pay a carriage charge of ?8 - ?12 per order but if that
was for several sets then it only adds a couple of quid or so per radio set.
Yes I could charge them up and if anyone has a mains inverter then you
can keep them charged up in-car during the day.
The only point I would make, and sorry for this but I would need payment
in advance preferably, or a VERY firm guarantee of payment on the day. A
few sets at ?40 a throw adds up :)

You pays yer money... etc.
I've been browsing the specs on these radios, haven't had much to do
with them in the past.
They all have slightly different features and performance, on paper at
least.
Range (max) is quoted at between 3 and 5 Km.
Some come with headsets, some have vibrating alert, some are battery
only, some rechargeable only, some either. Some are weatherproof.....
etc etc.
The Motorola XTL 446 seems a nice piece of kit at ?59 EACH but the BT
ones come with headsets and at ?42 a PAIR.
I can email pdf brochures of any or all of them if you wish.

Hi Peter,
If you want to do that I can stick them on the site.
Another good source of the radios is eBay, but make sure you know the
make model you are getting befoehand.
