From our new (2004) VW Passat Estate 1.9TDi 130 Highline :D :D :D

I replaced our 2001 Volvo V70 T5 Geartronic some 5/6 weeks ago after three years of totally trouble free motoring with the Passat after much soul searching and research as to what would suit our current family needs for the next three or four years.

Not only am I getting twice the mpg 33/34mpg round town as opposed to 16mpg in the Volvo and clearly 50+mpg on a run as opposed to 26/28mpg in the Volvo, but the Passat's road fund TAX is only £165 as opposed to £260 in the Volvo and the Insurance is only £280 as opposed to £495 with the Volvo :D Happy days  :D :D

I took the Passat on my longest run in it to date into Colchester down the A12 (dual carriageway) about 36miles round trip to pick up the wife's Christmas present that I keep missing the delivery of  Loaded the four kids in with bikes, scooters etc as went to park afterwards for fun on the swings :) There's also the full First Responder kit and a second O2 cylinder in the boot as I'm logged on tomorrow. A Tuff Tub full of all that tat that one needs to carry in ones car and a dog guard! So quite loaded up and 52.8mpg @ a prety constant 70mph ish :D :D :D

I just had to share, sorry :)

well done, I say get it chipped cost me about £125 and I got an extra 45bhp  and you will manage another 7 mpg, well I did on my 2004 Sport Estate, used to get about 45 out of my 57 plate 140 Estate Sport

I now have a 2010 Passat Estate 140 Bluemotion, can get about 62mpg at 70 with the Cruise on and my boot is full of gear all the time. Manged to get 68mpg going down south with thw Cruise on from getting on at Doncaster and coming off the M5 at Taunton.

This one made me smile, having used 1/th of a tank and stuck behind a truck coming over the A66 I looked down and saw the range at a staggering 975 miles to go

I had my passenger to take a photo as proof

I got my missus a 54 plate skoda superb 1.9tdi 130 elegance. It has been chipped and it goes like stink. We have had it for 5 years and I still can't believe I'm driving a diesel. Its full of all the whistles and bells, climate contol, full leather and returns 50-55mpg on a run or 35mpg round town. I don't know how many cars can boast luxury and fuel economy.

Glad you are happy with your new toy

I probably had the vehicle with teh widest range of economy- had a audi a8 4.2.

Lowest i saw was racing in the alps with a lowest of 0.3mpg - yes thats 3 Gallons to the mile :D :D

then coming back from the alps with 4 people and a load of equipment it averaged 28.9mpg at 80, although it also did 27.4 at 130!!!

We came home quite quickly......
