we have a problem with our 80 series, GVM max is 2980kg, we weighed it today and its 3200kg, when we hitch up the caravan its 3400kg, 3650kg with 2 of us in there and the dog :coldsweat: so we are looking at a duel-cab converted 105 series, with a 1hd-fte and 5 speed auto, twin locked with harrop e-lockers, weighed it and its 2700kg weth a GVM of 3180kg but upgradable to 3500kg so a bit to spare

Can you not upgrade the GVM on an 80? I will be weighing mine soon and strongly suspect I'll be similar.

my back axle weight is 1750kg already, without adding the 200kg ball weight of the van, let alone more fuel and beer. From what I read the max on the rear axle is 1800kg, did read of someone upgrading there GVM to just over 3300kg here in Australia, but even that would not quite do it for us, tho I would be happy to hear of anyone here that knows someone that can rate it higher

There's something here that I don't understand (not an uncommon situation).

According to the VIN plate, my 2001 4.2 '100' has :

Max Kerbside Weight = 3,260 Kg.

Max No.1 Axle load = 1,630 Kg. )
} = 3,581 Kg.
Max No.2 axle load = 1,950 Kg. )

Gross Train Weight = 6.760 Kg.

Meaning that the truck, if within 3,260 Kg, can tow 3,500 Kgs.

I would have thought that an '80' would be similar, or higher. Are they rated differently in Oz ??

Bob.

I am having talks with an engineer about a GVM upgrade to 3350kg, if I travel with no spare tyres on the back of the 80 (spare will be fixed to the back of the van) and move all the tools from the drawers to the van as well, I may just sneak in by 10kg with allowable weights, trying to get it sorted as I am too attached to it :)

Regarding the 100 series, I was told they have higher rated axles, my rear axle max is 1850kg, with a GVM upgrade here in Australia you can take them up to 3500 kg compared to the 80 max of 3350 kg
