Hannibal Roof tents..fast reply pls

I have just enquired about this and have been offered it for £600. It would seem a good price but just want to confirm that with anyone who has one?

I was thinking at that price its worth a go and to see if the wife and daughter are happy and if not should be able to get my money back.

I believe Hannibal and howling moon are the leading RTT brands to go for...i may be wrong.

My Family Hannibal tent was a ridiculous price and the quality is pants, poor stitching, sharp edges etc. etc..

I would suggest save your money here and buy a new Tentco one from Barry ay waypoint-tours.com for almost the same money.

Having had a good look at the tentco ones on a pyrenees trip, i would say the quality is about the same if not better and the price is considerably less.

Cheers Andrew, having had a look I can get the same tent back in SA and save on shipping it back for £400 with the jumbo kit so think I will pass for now.

No Problem, I thought I was buying a premium quality product and was severely disappointed with it. The tent was poorly packed and the courier had dropped it and it took months to sort out all the damage with Nene.

The family tent is also best part of 100kgs which is a royal Pain in the A55 for top weight and fitting on and off the LC as it takes 4 adults to lift it up.

I suggest going to see one that you like before you buy it.

We have a 2m Hannibal, good quality, well designed, some 3rd party installer related issues but had excellent after sales service from Nene to resolve them That one is a bargain, don't know how much adding a jumbo fly and bottom room would cost might be worth calling Nene to ask. IIRC the 2m is 85kg, so slightly heavier to lift on and off than my previous mags but don't really notice it up top on an 80. Family loved it on our summer trip which amazed me. My advice would be avoid having something that large and heavy couriered, go and fetch it.

I have a 1.4 hannibal rtt, takes two to lift on and off, and that is only due to the bulk of it and not wanting to risk scratching the paint or roof rack, weight wise I could lift it by myself. It has kept us dry through a stormy windy night in the lake district, and is perfectly comfortable when weather is not an issue, the 80 does not notice the weight of it up top, wind resistance is another story, personally I like hannibal but then I am south african, supriseingly swambo likes it better than the bed at home, says it's more comfortable to sleep in, my only gripe is the fact that air can get in where it folds, but then I have yet to meet a rtt that does not lol,

It's better than my first rtt which was some german thing I forget the name of.

And John is right, something like that you would want to go collect it yourself that way if there are any issues you are in a position to put your foot down and negotiate, they want to take your money lol.
Nene Overland are the official UK importer but Devon 4x4 also sell hannibal and other tents, have a look around especially at the shows.

A couple of examples of my experience with Hannibal

The Typical Hannibal quality on my tent - Swarf on all metal fittings, including ladders, I spent 2 hours deburring all the metal before I would let the kids near the tent


Typical example of the sowing, some of the internal canvas seams are really poor and zigzag by about 3/4"



There was loads of other issues with this tent, but this gives you a clue, not exactly what I was expecting for £2k

If you buy one make sure you inspect it thoroughly, at the time I bought this there was no other 4 berth tents.

I'm surprised Nene didn't swap it if the canvas seams zig zag by 3/4", that's very bad. Our cover was damaged in transit, then not fitted properly by local fitters nominated by Nene, resulting in a 10% discount for our troubles and after our holiday when we'd used the tent for 18 days they swapped it for another brand new one ... that turned out to have a tiny hole in the rear of the cover again from transit so Nene sent us a new cover (at my request rather than doing the whole swap thing again) which I have put in the loft as a spare and I will put a tiny patch on the current one

We chose a Hannibal purely on availability of a suitable sized tent, not based on any real research, but as I look at alternative designs I've not seen a design I'd rather have, yet

If anyone want the one advertised then I will pass on the sellers contact details but as said I am only oging to have to ship it back to SA when we move and if I can get the same tent plus the Jumbo Kit for £400 out in SA already it makes no sense to get it here for more and still have to pay to ship it out.

I think its a good price for the UK but with the pound being so strong against the Rand it is a no brainer for me to look out for one in SA.
