HDJ-100 converter

Julian,
If you are getting a HDJ-100 automatic produced before 5 June 2001 (vin
JTEHC05J904005603), you will have to consider the torque converter,
particularly if exposing it to a chip, or a trip where your safety depends
on the vehicle. There is a TSB on the converter for the HDJ, and some
cases of the clutch failing and killing the gear box.
Does your 100 have the old or the new converter?
Btw, I was anyhow going to ask if anyone knows the cost of a new converter
in the UK, or in any other Eur. country.
In Norway they are about 700 £, and in Sweden about 800 £ I think it was.
The part number is 32000-60150, although there is a replacement no. Was it
-60200 ?

Hi Ugo,
Yes I know of the torque convertor issue and will most likely be
getting a pre June 2001 model so will have to address it.
My plan is to check the service history first and then make a descision
if it hasn't already been done.
I'll let you know the prices when I find out.

Subject: Re: [ELCO] HDJ-100 converter
Hi guys
so if I understand right the HDJ100 produced after June 2001 has a problem
with the gearbox?
sorry asking again but did not quite catch on...
regards
Lubo

Hi Lubomir,
No, there are issues with the Torque Convertor on 100 series LCs produced
between 1998-June 2001.
I can't remember the full details but when the Torque convertor fails it can
also damage the auto box so ends up being very expensive to repair.

Well, there are many still driving around with the pre june 5 2001
converter, including me.
I have had some problems with the converter not going out of lock-up when
retarding lately. Have tried a quick fix: changed the ATF three times
over, as well as checking the oil-pan and strainer for particles. All
looked good, and the converter seems to be fine now.
