Hi all,
After reading along on this forum for a while and enjoying to see all the pictures of your builds I thought it was time to share my beloved HZJ75 with you! We bought the car in 2013 to replace our VW t3 syncro campervan which we had bought with the idea to travel for a year. Given the t3 always broke down we figured we would have to buy something a bit more solid. Choice: a 110 defender or a HZJ!
I started to read some blogs of travelers and soon read a story of a couple shipping a well equiped and prepared 110 to South Africa for a one year trip. After travelling for a week they had a major gearbox failure and were stranded for weeks to get it fixed. Out was the defender and in the HZJ75!
We bought it with 150.000 km on the ODO and it was pretty stock, so we added:
- A Safari snorkel
- 6 BF Goodrich AT tires
- All round beefed up OME suspension
- ARB bull bar
And we were ready to prepare and leave! I let some pictures tell the rest of the story! For those interested to read a bit more and to see some more pics feel free to have a look on our blog:

Now some pics!
Cheers, Alex.
At purchase:
Taking it for a first spin:
Prepping the interior
First night camping in the US!
Nearby Tulum in Mexico
Nicaragua:
More overlanders in Nicaragua
In Bolivia driving to Brasil to catch a match of the Belgians in Rio - Worldcup 2013
Getting it dirty in Argentina - nearby Ushuaia
Still using the car for camping and offroading!
