OK you can all laugh - I have a Sparkrite alarm/immobiliser.
But such OEM options are not considered necessary for military spec 80's,
hence my fitting of the alarm in Oct 03. It was OK for a couple of months
and then the immobiliser failed, so Sparkrite kindly sent a complete
replacement unit for me.
Its a cheap DIY brand I know, but it has done very well and the alarm
sensors (shock, ultrasonic, door/bonnet pin switches) all work well, and
its reliable and does not go off every time a car passes when its parked.
The only failing out here is that when it gets hot you have to adjust the
ultrasonics down as heat seems to set them off - even on our office VW's
too. The box, although mounted on the wing by the air cleaner has also kept
dry despite the conditions I drive in at times.
Now that its out of warranty the replacement has also suffered an
immobiliser failure. When you pull the circuit board out of the box, the
immobiliser coil looks somewhat insubstantial - but what should I expect
from a Chinese made badge engineered gismo that probably sells for a fiver
ex factory (99.99 from Halfords).
So does anyone know of a suitable replacement relay from say Maplin that I
can solder on the board. Or alternatively I can arrange a hidden switch in
the starter coil energiser cable somewhere. What do you all think? I am
not in a position to have an expensive replacement alarm fitted, and as
long as the other functions still work in the Sparkrite I am prepared to
compromise on the immobiliser function. Thanks
Cheers
