Yes, I know this a LC site but a few of you have Hiluxes, so I thought I'd ask first.
A good friend's son works in Zimbabwe on a lion reserve (Antelope Park) and he wants to buy a Hilux double cab. I suggested that he go to SA as that's where they are made but to bring it back to Zim is not as simple as it sounds - you can be stuck at the border for up to 3 days while the officials decide how much they think they can get out of you by way of import duty as there is no fixed rate and white Europeans are considered to be the best value. That is not an option for him, so he'll have to visit the main and only dealer in Harare but he's no mechanic so needs to know what he should be looking for....
He'll probably have to go for an earlier 7th generation or a late 6th. Diesels.
Unless he's very lucky, most trucks available will have had a fairly hard life, but what wears out and what gives trouble?
Your input, gentlemen, is appreciated
Regards,
