Is it me or is the forum grinding to a halt (in web terms)

As someone who knows nothing about computers other than nobody knows everything about them..........could you try another computer.

On Frank's theme and approach, I have no complaints of lack of speed, neither on my laptop nor my preferred use of the iPad.

I'm assuming it is a Mac and not something you've knocked up on the garage one evening in between LC projects:p

No real speed issues here since I upgraded my 11 year old PC running XP last month and switched camps to Apple with a new iMac after much deliberation. Forum pages usually load instantly, the longest delay just over 1 sec maybe. Also have a fibre connection (FTTC) giving, typically around 25mb down/9mb upload speeds.

Don't see how any of that helps guys. I've said over and over this forum is the ONLY thing affected. I can stream hd movies whilst editing photos and browsing eBay all at the same time whilst listening to Spotify. It's a very high spec machine. But click a thread on here from the main menu and I just get "waiting for land cruiser club. Net"
Not using Safari
I can't see how this is my machine

Im using Safari on the iPad, no prob at all.

Safari on the iOS and on OSX are different beasts. Was talking to my partner and she notices some sites slow on her 2013 Macbook Air but fine on her iPad. Both using Safari and connected to a Apple Airport Extreme,a router, then along 7 kms of BT wet string to our nearest exchange.

Just thought a check with a different browser would at least rule out Safari.

Sorry chaps thanks for efforts on this one but away from home til Friday and working on iPhone and iPad on hotel wifi through tappytalk which is working fine of course
It's not every time that's the thing. Just when I think right let's get to it you b*******d it works fine!!!

The issues are only on my desk top at home. I can try Safari when I get back and see if that does anything

I had a problem with my computer Chris. It only affected ebay at first. I improved things by swopping browsers but then ebay was affected again and became erratically slower then stopped. Then the problem spread to other areas. After 12 months the internet was unusable but emails were unaffected. I checked with my McAfee system which said "all clear". My friend had an identical problem and discovered he had a virus which he cleared with the help of his security system which also told him initially there was no virus. When I tried another computer my line worked perfectly. My first computer in fact did have a virus. It's easy to assume your computer is not the problem but very easy to try one which has not been in contact with yours.

As I previously mentioned Chris this site is slow for me but not as bad as yours. It is annoying though. Only this site is affected. As a matter of interest I have tried my standby computer which responds instantly.

Doesn't that suggest it's your computer or browser? What browser is it and are there any plugins installed on either?

If it's fine on one pc and not the other then it can't be the site itself but rather something affecting it.

If you log out is it better or worse?

I don't know what browsers I have and I don't know what a plugin is.

I'll try logging out next time.

Crispin I logged out and it said "all cookies cleared", whatever they are. The site is much quicker now so thanks !! I've never logged out of anything before!

Frank, so after logging out the site was quicker. Was it still quick after logging in again? If so, most bizarre.
