It was tough growing up

Couldn't see the point, it just went on for ages, with no pain 'wot so ever' I think he was just weird.
I think it was for the supposed shame of being punished rather than any pain it caused, I remember getting 'the cane' in front of the whole school at morning assembly (can't remember what for) it was not painful at all and it did give me some 'cred' amongst my fellow school mates.

I'd lay my bottom dollar even Mighty Mike Tyson would cower before his frail old mother's wrath because it was instinctively installed within him as a child . It's natures way .

Most of what i suffered was unjustifiable , often i had no idea why , plenty of times i knew i was innocent of that i was being punished for . Yet all it did to me was improve my empathy and strengthen my resolve . I sometimes felt sorry for the punisher .

I still vividly remember the very first time i lost my temper i was about 5 and on suffering a half hour series of injustice the blackness descended and in my young mind my life was forfeit but i was going down fighting .

I didn't know it then of course but it was a life defining moment for me to understand strength has nothing to do with size .

Edit :- also the assumption of authority is more often than not based on another's acceptance of it

I often have this same debate with my lovely missus. regarding kids of today, Blaming their parents and violence and abuse at home. To a degree she's right. But I was dragged up by a violent father. separating parents ,hardly saw my brother and sisters. father in and out of nick. I left school at 15 and a mate and I lived in a council garage for a year. We both got jobs down the mines and then life was tough but sweet. My point is that I have never stolen, never beaten anybody up, always respect my elders never ever been out of work, and always pay my way... Kids nowadays think its ok to blame every thing else for their stupidity and short comings. I always say to my Missus that I am the prime example that you can turn out good if you want to.. 'Just sayin like'
