Keys

As TonyP says, if your electronic insides still work fine Tractionman, this is real, real simple.

Buy a new blank case/key from ebay as you have done, get the blank key cut to match your old one, put your electronic insides into the case, done!

Cost you next to nothing. No reprogramming, easy!!

My casing cracked and the key wobbled in the casing every time I started the vehicle. I lived with it for a little while, then thought if I carried on I was probably going to damage the electronics - the expensive part. I bought a blank like in the link below (thanks TonyP for the link,) did the neccessary for next to nothing, and 2 years later like TonyP, mine still works a treat.

Good luck!

Thanks Bhutan and all you other guys, blank been ordered and should have been here by today. Now the fun starts getting them to understand what I mean armed with old key and new blank. Will report back with any result, cheers.

Well, I find myself needing a new key case again as my replacement knock-off case is starting to crack. There’s a surprise...

However, there was something I found out whilst fiddling with the thing that I thought I’d share with you. You can actually take the metal key out of the casing and put it, along with your working electronic insides, into the new case. This saves going to the locksmith to get the new key cut to match your old one. Who knew...?

Shouldn’t have been that difficult really, there is a clue in the form of a screw in the key case. You need to unscrew the case to open it to do the electronics swap, guess what, you can swap the key as well as the screw goes through the head of the key to allow removal too
