I recently bought this 24V auto import to use as my daily driver. A bit bling but at 118K miles and dead solid it had to be bought. I like the 24V engine but can only have auto as a grey import.

The truck was great but the tyres were perished and the American Racing wheels were a bit crusty.

So I fitted a set of Cooper Zeon XST's

to a set of after market alloys which came on a truck I broke which I had polished up, and the result is:-

Not everyones cup of tea I know but the wheels kind of grow on you and with what I have in them they had to be given a try. Originally my intention was to have them powdercoated black but gave them a go polished first.

Very nice - quite a collection you've got there! :icon-cool:

The Cooper Zeons look a lot smaller than what was fitted......what size are they?

That looks the dogs danglies Andy, only thing that spoils it for me is that stupid mirror on the nearside wing, mine had one when i got it, first thing to go.

The Marshalls were 285's and the Coopers 275/70's. The Coopers side by side with 275/70 BFG A/T's are not as tall.

Nice truck, pity it does not have the difflocks but as a daily drive it should not matter too much. Do you know if the rear LSD is still working as it should? Do you have a 24v auto with difflocks in your collection?

Also what are those 2 buttons next to the TC gear leaver?

Hi Rob, the two buttons say "2nd" and "PWR" on them. I guess the former is to allow starts in 2nd and the latter is to change the shift pattern to upshift at higher than normal RPM. All the petrol 80's have them and all the import diesel auto's too.
I have never seen an import 24V with diff locks but some 12V imports have them.
The lack of lockers does not bother me for road use, I've pulled a heavy trailer across a soft field with the 24v auto with no issues and been out in the snow so I guess the LSD works. I might at some stage consider fitting diff lock axles ( as I have a spare pair on a 95 12V I bought for spares) but I would have to have a good reason to do so. I know of a forum member who has done this.

Nice. I much prefer an auto. The truck looks to be in good shape, the polished alloys are an improvement, in my opinion it'd look even better with out the bull bar, I think they sit to close to the vehicle and mess with an 80's curves. If it was mine I might also be tempted to remove the large window wind deflectors and replace with some less noticeable ones on the front windows only, again to help the vehicle have clean lines.

As standard these trucks are so capable that I've only had to use my axle lockers a handful of times, they're very nice to have but for a daily driver, I doubt you would ever miss them.

Enjoy!

Looks very nice Andy, I like the colour and the wheels. I agree with Scott about the bed frame on the front. I had one of those in chrome and stainless steel and apart from being ugly, it was useless. When I crashed into a speeding moron on an unmarked cross road, it was destroyed and the bar did more damage to my car than it protected. ARB on the font now.

I love 80s!
