Lessons learned when a turbo fails.. D4D

Let us all Know either way James what the outcome was... There are too many threads where people ask for advise/information. Which is gladly given. Then we never hear from them again, So it would be good to get some feed back, For others to use..... Cheers James and good luck
I rest my case M' Lud.. Wonder if he sorted it

Hi Higgy and all - Happy new year.
Reporting back on this - having taken the truck to SVS near Ringwood (DORSET) after the first supposed diesel turbo specialist held me to ransom...On inspection the actuator was working fine, but after stripping down air intake they found the turbo impeller shaft had snapped...:anguished: I'm apparently exceptionally fortunate that a nut had not been ingested further into the system otherwise it would have gotten very nasty. Turbo was sent away, refurbished, rebalanced and refitted (along with oil/fuel filters, gaskets) and new oil. So the turbo is working like new... however.... the original fault I had of surging power and intermittent acceleration around 2-3000 rpm is still present. I discovered this driving away from the mechanics (having paid £1200) so took it straight back. Apparently they had put 12 miles on it and not noticed anything, which I find hard to believe as it happened to me driving away from them. They then road tested it again and despite having it plugged into diagnostics while driving, it only happened once. Suspected Suction control valves (i replaced these 22 months ago with Denso ones which immediately fixed problem, but it has resurfaced) and new fuel filter required.

This SCV issue is apparently a problem with the KDJ120R 3.0 engine. Has anyone had this same issue and do they know is SCV can be cleaned out or will fitting a new pair be necessary?

thanks guys! good to have it back but wish it was just fully working..

Glad the Turbo issue is sorted..Sorry about the scv or whatever it might be, There are a few posts on here regarding the scv .. Just do a search see if you can find them, Or someone might be able to assist...... Sorry i doubted you getting back with the feedback... My 120R had 198,000 on the clock and iv never had SCV issues. Or any issue really apart from that dodgy Turbo Wire.... All the Best

No problems! It genuinely took this long to get it back...thanks for the further advice. will look it up.

If the Manufacturers made the engine Properly in the first place, Why should it need a Turbo, Lack of Power should have been on their Minds when they were building the Damn Thing......

On this theme, I was wondering “What is a turbo?”

Then I read the next post about them improving economy...
So I’m now wondering “What is economy?”

Sorry, just playing the simpleton... it’s what happens when you own truck with a stock 1HZ engine for 13 years...

I’ll get my coat....

The couple I sold my turboed 1hz troopy to, drove the Karakoram highway with altitudes up to 4700 m.
Over there, imho, a turbo really is a blessing.

I am indeed Higgy, and many thanks to you for sorting that for me...

Pity they didn’t do one for 444,444 km, but 200,000 miles is close enough

Next stop, 1/2 million km, I’m on my way.....
