MAASSIVE broadband speed

Just arrived at the house tonight, so I ran a test on the wi-fi here...

Pretty good it seems. :icon-biggrin:

Surprised to see the upload so much higher than the download, it's usually the other way about.

A bit pesky there Clive. Could be other downloads taking place while you're testing.

Frank
There's a test number 17070 that allows ringback test and quiet line. Try quiet line (option 2) when the phone works and if it's anything but quiet there's likely a connection problem on the line. If your phone allows, put it on mute as well. Do this from the master socket by removing the bottom half of the faceplate and plugging into the jack that is in behind it. That way you isolate your internal wiring and are connected directly to BT's outside line. If the problem persists there it is outside and is BT's problem.

Also worth bearing in mind these days that iPads and the like automatically backup to 'the cloud' and whilst doing so can eat up serious chunks of the bandwidth to the point that your normal usage is adversely affected.

So, tried again, got this wierd one... via Racari (wherever that is)..

Then this via Bucharest, still got higher upload than download, but good traffic...

We've had an upgrade recently, a definite improvement...

If you have telephone extension sockets wired off the main socket this can also cause attenuation in the broadband signal with a corresponding loss in speed. There are filters available that fit onto the master socket (if it's the right type) which can filter out this attenuation if you really need to leave these extensions connected. Plugging the router into the test port on the master socket after unplugging the faceplate and comparing sync speeds should give you an idea if you have this issue.

What about that then! High Speed my Butt
Download o,92 Mbps and upload 0.88Mbps :(

Thanks for all the help. We have 5 extensions all put in by me 27 years ago. This includes a hanging wire up to the garage which is 200 ft in total by the time it's got to BT socket. I had to scrounge the right cable and fittings from a BT van. (4 failed attempts).

Years of problems but they've never found one in the house until lightning burned out the router and master socket. BT engineer sorted that out. I'm with Tiscali/TalkTalk and I had to beg a BT engineer in the lane to come and sort me, which he did. All I know is I have the latest master socket and filter. It's 3 inch cube.

I've often had the front off to test in the first port but it's always the line outside. Exchange is 5 miles away as the wire runs lol but through trees and there are very few people on this so they'll never make any money.

I'll make a note of the silent line test.

Thanks again.
