I have been known to as well, but I hate to hear the NA used for adverts and the like.
And, although they're made in the UK, whats British about the mini? IMO what happened to the UK car manufacturing industry was a travesty, thanks to the unions.

I'm very proud to be a Brit, but I can't believe some of the crap that we've done in the past. And it never seems to end.
I shouldn't complain, I'm not there anymore, but it saddens me, that's all.

BL must have made some of the worst cars ever towards the end, with the Allegro, the Maxi, oh lord, the list is endless! But the mini was a winner from the get-go and even BMW recognized that!
I swore that I'd never buy a new car again (till last week I'd only ever bought one) but we picked this up for the wife on Thursday, it's a Dacia Stepway, which is the basic Sandero with a package of extras, such as external trims, better seats, roof bars, cruise control, better ICE with sat nav, la, la, la. We got a diesel, because I want it to do the kms, I don't want a car that dies at 200k kms.
It's great and it was cheap, the base model is €7090 incl VAT.
My sister in law bought a new Dacia Logan 10 years ago and apart from some rust on the arches, it's a good reliable car. It was 8000 USD. We'll see in time if I've made a bloomer, but at the price, it's worth taking the chance.
This is Romania, closest thing to a 3rd world country, what can the UK offer?

with Clive re the British car industry, a total tragedy.
people blame it on cheap Japanese imports, but then, what about BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, all those resisted, why with such great ideas and innovation could we get it so wrong. The unions was one part of the story, but weak management and piss poor Government were the other. It's tragic, truly tragic.

Wouldn't it be great to buy British again , tv doesn't work just give it a slap and it'll be fine for another 6 months , car won't start just smack the starter with a hammer and it'll be fine for another 6 months , trouble with the lawnmower just give it a kick and it will be fine for another 6 months

With you on that Moggy, I've watched it a few times since and there's a lot of 'procedural' issues going on (or rather not going on).
The guys let him climb out of the car himself!
10/10 for guts, but 1/10 for the rest, and I imagine the venture failed for those reasons. Just glad he survived, but he'll do it again, probably with the same issues.

the unions always get the blame for the decline of the british car industry - nothing to do with years of under investment or pisspoor management then.The french German & Italian were facing similar problems to ours in the 70s but investment & cooperation with the unions pulled them round.Wolkswagen (profits in 2010 2.4 billion euros) are %55 state owned & have trade unions on the board.rant over
