Karel,
You can buy UK insurance prior to getting an MOT even for a vehicle that does not have continuity of insurance in the UK. Don't risk it.

You can drive a car without an MOT to and from a testing station but two days may be stretching it a bit.
Tax and insurance though is a very different, you must have both of these. If your car is on a foreign plate i.e. French,
it is unlikely to come up on the ANPR computers in the police cars however if they decide to do a stop check you could
be in for all manner of grief.
Your best bet is to get the UK leg of your journey done on a trailer.
The trouble is that you will not get Tax without an MOT certificate. If you are insured you will possibly get away with the tax and MOT issue
if you can prove the vehicle is booked in.
Over here the police issue a section 165 which means they will take your car off you if it is not insured and you would have to pay =A3130 to get it back.
To get it back though you would need to show proof of insurance and if that takes a few days you will also have to pay =A320 a day storage fees.
Where do you have to get the vehicle to, from Dover=3F Can you spend enough time in Dover to MOT the car and sort all the other paperwork you need=3F
Sorry to sound such a doom merchant but it is best to be aware.

Subject: [ELCO] MOT rules
Good morning
I was wandering if anyone is a expert on MOT rules.
Our car is in France. We want to return our beloved to the UK. We need MOT done. We don't have any tax or insurance currently on the car. We are planning to cross via Dover.
Am I correct to say that it would be fine if we have proof of MOT appointment within the next 2 days=3F
The cars windscreen is cracked and need to be replaced too...
Any suggestions=3F
