Hi,
I'm blowing the tail light fuse. Trouble shooting but I don't have the correct wiring drawing, I need the specific one for HZJ78 year 2000 4.2 diesel. The front coils model.
I have a Haynes manaul but the drawings are generic. Some thing under the dash, a relay maybe, the instrument cluster light maybe is shorted, but the drawing I have isn't correct and doesn't show everything on that fuse. Everything that is on the drawing is disconnected so either its another device not shown or the cable is to the chassis.
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Is it my imagination but is anything electrical is not a hot topic?
Are circuit diagrams not easily available?

I've narrowed the short to the dash. The Haynes manual states there is a conection to "LAMP REMINDER RELAY AND CLOCK"
The clock is working but is the lamp reminder relay the instrument cluster light? It must be but I'd like to be sure. Does anyone know where the relay is located?
Any help would be appreciated, but meanwhile I'm going rewire the front as I've worked out the rear is working but cutting the wire and putting 12V to the lights. Its just the front park lights now. It's not difficult but I'd prefer to have the original loom correct. And I'd like the instrument cluster light to work in the dark.
Cheers.

Do you have a tow bar fitted Alex?

You’ve asked for the correct diagram. If you pay a small fee to become a supporter it opens up the downloads section. If that section contains the manual you require you may download it from there. These manuals are only what have become available.

There’s not a huge number of electrical specialists on here and your truck is not so common where the majority of the members come from. Maybe this explains why you’ve not had many responses?

Now, How have you traced the fault to the dash? What have you disconnected? Have you got a tow socket? Has anything been fitted with drilled holes and screws that may have damaged wiring?

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, I've found a thread on here from 2013 which has a helpful manual. I found it using google and it sent me back here!
Manual EWD 168F
I've cut the wire to the rear, drastic i know but I can reconnect, and disconnected loom to the front, so only the dash is left. From the manual I now have I know where the relay is so later I'll take a look.
No tow hitch yet.
I didn't realise you can pay to see the downloads, I thought one needed lots of contributions.
Cheers,
Alex

Electrical download is here.

Sounds possibly a trapped wire. Stereo replacements can get tight on the 80 so I guess the 70 series is no exception. I’d be looking there first. Check at each stage. Move something check, move something else check.

When I say check I mean with a multimeter set to Ohms between the dead side of the fuse and Body earth. Another way is to get a 12v lamp in a lamp holder or with a couple of wires on it and put that across the socket for the fuse. When you move the offending article the lamp will go out or dim. Ideally place the same size fuse in the circuit as was originally fitted.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, I checked what I could and everything is well wound into the loom. Wired the multimeter in but nothing broke the short. Some time I'll take the dash off for fun, it looks straight forward. But for now I've rerun the front lights and picked up the rear connection. It works but also I checked all the lights, it's an ex ambulance so has allot of lights inside, outside, spots, floods etc, and all of them are much brighter than before. So I probably had a drain to ground for a while. I'm not chasing thru the dash without a drawing so what I have is fine. I can't see the dash in the dark but I try not to do much night time driving here in Peru. Daytime driving is stressful enough.
Cheers

Did you disconnect the dash gauges and test? Just wondering if you’ve got some water damage in there.
Was this fault there when you bought the truck or has it come on recently?
