Nobody like Pink Floyd ?

Besides Another brick in the wall, none of their stuff really floated my boat until about 10yrs back when I started playing Wish you were here on the acoustic, it's one of my favorites to play now. If DSOTM came out '73 I was only 8 so that probably explains it

More Tommy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S33tWZqXhnk

This was the first tune I ever heard him play, I was learning to play the original Mason Williams version, I was stuggling in the middle section and found tommys version on youtube, gave up right there and then, I still can't play the rest of it :laughing-rolling:

John Farnham DID have a good voice but he was off key in that video several times. I remember the original. Not as bad as Paul McCartney who can't sing for a toffee now.

Nobody like Pink Floyd ?

I expect if you got him in a studio he'd still have it. He was off a few times but occasionally singers have trouble with in ear monitors and can't hear themselves. I thought he still had 'it' and was pretty darn good.

Pink Floyd. +1 on that Frank. We've been to see Australian Pink Floyd and Brit Floyd (the spin off) that now have some of the original road crew and inflatables!! They are the closest thing to Pink Floyd you can see now and are quite brilliant. If you get the chance go and see them.

Can't deny the Floyd, but I have to be in the mood.

I still can't imagine the emotions that must run when playing to a 30k stadium crowd ...

Paradise in Paris (listen to this on a system and imagine being the bass player...:icon-cool:) or audience feedback with Charlie Brown

Or something a bit softer... Us Against the World in the studio.

With all due respect to Miss Piggy, it beats the Muppets JMHO...

Another sleepless night so going down memory lane with youtube music probably because of this thread when i remembered the very first record i ever saved up and bought for myself was Judas Priest breaking the law .
I thought yeah i will mention this because i met Ernie Chataway a few years back for a few beers and just a couple of years ago he was staying with a mate so we were drinking buddies for a week , the bugger even got me to sing so he could play along but it was a house party after the pub and there were only 6 of us .

What a lovely fella .

I googled him just to be sure i spelled his name right only to find he passed away on the 12th of May 2014 .

It seems ridiculous that i feel so awful , its not like we were lifelong buddies or anything of the sort and i think you will all have guessed by my posts on this thread that i'm not the fan club kind yet i'm kicking myself with "i should have known" , looking back i know he knew . I am also wondering why my mate never told me and i have an awful suspicion he did but i was too drunk to remember .

I dunno i have no idea why i'm posting this i guess i feel i should do something if i'm to get any sleep .

I get what you mean Shayne. I felt a part of my childhood had gone when I heard a couple of years ago that Oliver Postgate had died. I grew up watching his animations and hearing his mellow voice on things like the Klangers, Ivor the Engine and Bagpuss.

I can imagine your connection being stronger as you actually met the guy, had a great time, got taken out of your comfort zone and took away some memories to last a lifetime.

Sleep cleared the head a bit and i did know , we said our final farewells that night at the party , I shook his hand and said until next time and he said nope i have used up all my next times , so i called him an inconsiderate t*@t because i was just starting to like him and we laughed . I guess i filed that away so the news when i was given it didn't shock me but rather allowed me to shut a door in my memory i guess .

Hmm, that's quite a story Shayne. If I'm ever in the situation of knowing how may days I have left (which I hope I'm not) then I hope I have the strength of character to be like him and have a good time until the end.

Saw DS in concert 3 times, a good show and close to the music (some bands you can barely recognize what they're playing).

good choice Rich.

I installed a BOSE stereo in this beautiful old house we had been refurbishing. It went into 5 rooms and the lounge had the top rated 'Jewel cube' speakers. I stayed on to get it up and running as I had had a few problems. Got it right and pulled out the client's CDs. Dire straits live went on, at an 'appropriate' volume. The son came downstairs as it started to play and as he walked Into the lounge with his mouth open, someone in the crowd whistled.

I swear he lifted off the ground, When he landed he said 'that's amazing'.

I really enjoyed that job. Still friends with the clients to this day.

I'd go and see Dire Straits if they played within easy reach.

Anyway, here's another

Enjoyed that set Rich, but I can't place the link.

We saw Peter Gabriel in Bucharest in May 2014, cracking performance and his voice has hardly changed over all this time.

We also like Texas, I recon Sharleen Spiteri is one of the sexiest women to hit the music scene, ever!

At a Who concert I was at (as a lad), Moon (the loon) jumped off a 10' speaker stack landing on the stage exactly on that opening chord of Won't Get Fooled Again, he played all the way through the set in his usual antics, and at the end of the gig, they took him off stage on a stretcher, he'd broken a bone in his ankle...

cheers

The link is between Kate Bush and the guitarist on the Berlin track.

Shouldn't be too tricky now…[emoji6]

And very much agree about Sharlene BTW. We've seen Texas twice, once at the Brighton Centre and once outdoors at Arundel Castle. The Brighton Centre gig was an amazing room full of sound that you felt you could swim in, the band were brilliant and Sharlene's voice was outstanding. She was also a good laugh, especially when someone called out 'show us your booty'. I can't remember that she did but she picked up on it and had a laugh. At the Castle, she had a raging sore throat but still sang the whole set, although she was not 40% of her finest.

I wouldn't mind seeing Peter Gabriel, I can imagine that being a great gig. We also saw Simple Minds in Brighton, but the tickets we got at the last minute weren't the best and the sound was awful where we sat. Good band but we should have gone yonder them for Street Fighting Years as that's a CD that's got some blindingly good tracks on it.

In fact, here's another…

And an earlier one to go with it…

And one from another group too. Lead singer doing a very good Johnny Depp impression.
