So im fitting a new AMC head to my 1KZ-TE as the original cracked.

The original half moon seal for the valve cover doesn't fit my new AMC head, it's too big, too wide so won't sit flush in the head and level with the top of the valve cover surface.

What are my options here, where do I get one to fit? Can they be made up by places or should AMC have supplied a new one to suit their head?

Here's pics of the old head and original seal, this seal won't sit in the new head properly.

Before fitting the new head, take it to a 'Job Shop' and get them to turn an alloy plug for the hole. It should be milled flush with the top gasket face.
Where are you ?? It's the sort of job that people bring to me (Edinburgh area).

Bob.

Has to be an easier way but im thinking any machine shop with a lathe could make another but would likely demand exact measurements .

Give them the original moon and an impression from the AMC head moon by rubbing some vaseline on the head to prevent something like granville petro putty sticking as it sets .

Doh i wrote this last night and forgot to post .

What sort of a Job shop, Bob? Like could a general engineering place do this?

There's a lip on the outside of the half moon too, the lip stops it from falling into the engine, the lip sits against the outside of the head, could they machine it with the same lip of the original?

What is the point of the half moon seal in this particular place in the head anyway, it's behind the cam, why isn't it just solid like the rest of the head?

Something like that might be an option too, hmmm.

Yes, it's an easy turning job on a lathe. Any Engineering Shop should be able to make one.
It's easier if they have the head on the bench and the oversize original to copy.

The hole at the back of the head is to allow the camshaft bearings to be line-bored. The boring bar has to run exactly parallel to the line of the camshaft.
