I went playing in dirty 'orrible muddy water yesterday and the alternator has stopped charging on my 90. Got home, jet washed everything including the alternator (hoping it was a bit of muck that could be shifted) but still no charge and various lights not going out on the dash.

Now I could go and buy a 120 Amp version off Ebay as need the truck working for next saturday, I came across a post saying that the electronics is an easy change but where do I find a reputable, national/online, will know what I need and can ship it quickly supplier of alternator related gubbins?

Any recommendations from anyone? It would be nice to fix this one instead of forking out over £100 for another one.

Trev, it's quite easy to get to on LB, go in via the offside wheel arch. The connector is a bit of a bitch to get off but persevere.

Last time I took it apart I replace the brushes and the regulator (as I cracked the old one taking it off.) I would guess that the brushes are full off mud (alternator is a bit more prone to mud with the plastic wheel arch liner having been removed), so take it apart and give them a clean. Should take you less than an hour.

Once you have it off, you can assess if it needs replacing

Edit: Oh and I got the parts needed from Simon @ Toyota

good luck with getting it sorted. Just to recap at the mo, both Trucks are broken for next weekend.:?

Hi Trevor

As Tony says strip it down and clean all parts but make sure it is all dry, and that could be the problem.

But if you need a local supplier look up auto electrical places and phone around for the parts.

Cheers Chaps, I'll whizz it off the truck on Sat morning and see how we get on.
