Picked up this "Riv-nut" tool today

As the title, thought it was time for a new toy!

Don't know whether this brand is any good until I try it, any comments?



It (says) it goes from M5 through to M12 so it should be useful for most applications, if it works at all.



Reading the bumf, there's no information on what size hole to drill for each size of riv-nut, would I do the obvious and simply match the OD of the plain end of the riv-nut or are there other considerations...?

Looks very sturdy Clive, the Memfast one is more compact for getting into restricted spaces, I'm sure just matching the OD will suffice.

rivnuts are great tools for building things. I had a air one before that was amazing to use.

I can imagine! Maybe I should go to the gym..

I just want it for odd jobs, but I appreciate that it will only be useful in easy access situations.

I don't think you will need any more strength using that type than using a pop rivet gun, I'm pretty sure that all the Riv-Nuts I've put in could be done by that one, they are such a useful tool you will find all sorts of jobs where it can be used.

Sorry clive i missed the bit about sizes. Different makes of riv nut are different size so you need to adjust the hole to suit. I just measured the body. The tighter the hole the better fit. Ooo err. Practice with one first. Becarefull when changing the sizes as part is left hand thread and people that borrowed mine didnt know that!!

I was busy under my trailer yesterday when it lashed down with rain so i nipped down to halfrauds and got me one of these http://www.halfords.com/motoring/ga...acks-axle-stands/halfords-plastic-car-creeper and i'm very surprised how much easier it makes things , worth every penny in time saved even if its only bought for one job

That will be great when you've got your concrete floor finished, for the garage, I used one for years, saves a lot of backache Shayne.

I never thought them worth having assuming i'd just leave it in the shed ignored but how wrong i was . I like the strong look of your rivnut tool but i've never used one , i'm off to see what they do , night prove useful while building the trailer .

They're good, on a flat and smooth concrete floor, they perform very well, and save you banging your head struggling to get out from under the truck!

I liked mine when welding under old escorts and the like, running a gas weld along a rusty sill, the trolley used to be a boon.
