Problems with rear hatch on 57 Landcruiser 100 series

Hi all,

I’ve got a problem with the rear latch on the hatch (upper half of boot).

I can open it from the inside, I then flick the small black plastic piece and can open it from outside. I can close the boot and open it again from the handle.
As soon as I lock the vehicle on central locking key and then unlock it again the outside handle won’t open the hatch again.

It’s like the adjuster is done up too much, so I let the adjuster off until this doesn’t happen but then the outside handle doesn’t disengage the lock on the latch. So either way I can’t open it.

What could be the issue?
