Good day all.

What is the trick in removing the reservoir on a 1997 Land Cruiser?
I need to replace the low beam headlight located behind the reservoir.

I am do not want to break the plastic tank by just yanking or pulling and with our a decent service manual it is hard to guess.

Thank you for insights

Gerald

Hi Gerald

I have replaced both headlamps and all I had to remove was the radiator grill and side lights.
I have also replaced all four bulbs in both headlamps and for that job only the radiator expansion tank had to be removed, it lifts up up vertically out of its bracket, once out of the way I placed it on top of the battery it is in front of.
The expansion tank has two hook shaped tabs to facilitate lifting by hand, one each on opposite ends of the tank.

I drive an 80 series Land Cruiser, not sure if this is the model you are needing advice on but I hope this helps.

Regards
Julian

The windscreen washer tank is a real pain, try to avoid removing it. It sounds to me as though you're confusing the radiator expansion tank with the windscreen washer bottle.

If you do have to remove the windscreen washer bottle, it is in 2 parts, one you can see and I imagine you've removed the obvious retaining screws, then it becomes loose, but won't come out. That's because there's a pipe outlet to the hard plastic tank, connecting to a soft plastic "bag" tank in the inner wing. You have to ease the visible tank away at the bottom to expose the jubilee clip connection to the bag tank. Once the jubilee clip is loosened, pry off the connecting tube and it shoul come free.

Getting it back together is the same in reverse, with twice the swearing.

Trust me, don't do it unless totally unavoidable....

Depends if it's a petrol or dirty oil burner?
Iirc my petrol has a couple of screws to hold the bottle in place behind the right side headlamp. Remove them and lift the bottle out of the way. It takes up the space where a 2nd battery would go.

Wouldn't know about a petrol Gary, but the bottle sounds the same to me, two top screws and one lower down (from memory) but that's only the start. Have you ever removed yours?

I think you'll find the same set-up, with the outlet pipe to the bag type bottle hidden in the inner wing.

Had mine out mate, only has the bottle you can see in the engine bay, it might be a smaller bottle then a diesel, have to stop more for fuel so filling washers not an issue on a regular basis

That's it all.
3 10mm bolts. 2 at the front near the coolant expansion bottle and one at the back.

Yep, looks the same as mine only mine is on the RHS.

It must be a different set up on the petrol then Gary.

There's 5lt capacity in total, on the diesel. I'll take a photo tomorrow...
