Removing Torsion Bar Completely?

Hi, I have a 79 series that's been converted into a Safari tourist vehicle. I keep having issues with the torsion bar, most recently one of the bolts has been ripped out of the bracket that attaches it to the chassis. A friend told me to take it off completely. He has a Land Rover and a Range Rover, and he has done exactly that on both his vehicles. Looking for a second opinion as I'm in two minds whether to fix it or take it off.
