Replacing Lower Torsion Bar in Lower Tailgate Backdoor.

Hi All,

The Lower Torsion Bar of my 100 series has snapped (I know not a common occurrence!) - does the rear bumper need to be removed to gain access to the four bolts that secure the torsion bar or can this be achieved in situ by just removing the rear mat set plate and back door tailgate trim?

Any advice appreciated.

Any chance of posting a photo of the part that's broken, as I'm not to sure where the lower torsion bar is, I know where the front suspension torsion bars are.

Yes, the bumper skin has to come off. Takes about 5 mins, 3 screws at each wheel and 4 small bolts under the edge at the rear. The spring is attached with 4 bolts from the underside.

For those of you wanting parts, I used Megazip https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya-avtomobilej/toyota/land-cruiser-38286/hdj100-56599 - mine shipped directly from Japan. Site allows you to select your Landcruiser model and provides detailed breakdown of parts list with pictures to allow you choose the right bits. The Bar Assy, Back door lower Torsion was US$52.21. I also ordered the associated washers,nuts and guide to be on the safe side but could probably have just used the old ones.
