Retention certificate info needed

I'm buying a cherished plate which is on a retention certificate from a private sale, both i & the seller are not not sure how he has to fill in the certificate to send it to me so i am the owner of the plate, anyone help please ?

There is a section on there about giving the plate away. I am sure. You can have the plate in your possession but it is 'for' someone else. There is a phrase for it. That's how I bought one for the wife. It's nothing to do with money or selling it. You sort of 'gift' it and relinquish rights to it.

I think you have to become the nominee, this is about £25 and you have to download a form & send off to the DVLA.
