I'm wondering how many of the members here are into boats/boating? I'm trying to source a pair of Yamaha 90 or 115hp 2 stroke outboards with long shafts for my rib project....been on the usual websites so of course everything is gone within minutes but still haven't come across what I'm looking for. Rib is wired for twin Yams so that's why I'm trying to stick with that... You never know whats in the back of some peoples cruiser!

Very hard to find directions a matching pair. have you tried the mod auctions?

Can you give some details of the rib sounds interesting. thinking of a Rib maybe end of next year.

Thanks Shayne hadn't seen that site before will put it on the favourites and keep an eye on it..

The RIb is a Halmatic Arctic22. I may be a bit biased, but imo these are the 80 series of the rib world! Built like 'alternative' brick houses a bit heavy and bit slower than mainstream but you can add plenty of HP as you wish as the construction is extremely strong. They are only available new to MOD/Services and other specialised commercial operators. This particular one was ex oilrig safety boat on a supply vessel and has self righting capabilities along with a flush transom. The coastguard drop test them from 3meters at varying angles and the military deploy them out of aircraft ( albeit with a parachute I think).

I fancied doing some around the islands off the west of Ireland and Scotland so wanted a really seaworthy rib with good seakeeping qualities and couldn't believe it when this one came up locally so I just had to have it! It don't have engines but decided to keep with twins for reliability. in the event of using twins I wanted 2stroke because the are significantly lighter if not thirstier, but then smaller hp would do due to the weight saving. I believe the boat was originally fitted with twin 90s but figured I would go up to twin 115s and still get a range of a bout 230miles with twin built in tanks. There is an identical version to the arctic which is the pacific and the only difference being that it is fitted with a diesel inboard (4.2 yanmar or yamaha) coincidently but its too much to convert from outboard to inboard as opposed to the reverse

Overall its not in bad nick. tubes need a clean and some wear patches added but do not leak. The Gelcoat needs a polish all round and the console require some tidying. I will add 6-8 more seats and repowdercoat the A-frame etc. Maybe the cruiser needs a matching paint job!

Looks like fun

While island hopping i imagine you will encounter a lots of potters which can mean lots of floating rope , with that in mind i think i would opt for a main engine and a backup to be kept raised . Easier to find and easier on the pocket maybe .

you are right Shayne and if the boat cannot plane on one engine then it is better just to have a 10-15hp trolling motor. If I go single engine then four stroke will be the way. just thought I would try for a matching pair first before going down that route..anyone been offroading with a rib befiore?

Done some stupid stuff in ribs in Croatia long time ago.

Hello!!

Had a rib in the past but now have a 22ft Four Winns with a V8 :) She's very yellow though, a bit of a classic, we launch from Poole & do trips around the coast or IOW area.

PS: I have a gearbox or two for a 90-115 Mercury 2 smoker in my shed, think they are the same as the yam?
