Rising costs

Morning all
As I live in the dreadful London Borough of Hackney, my residents parking
permit is rising from =A380 to just over =A3200 when it comes up renewal in
October. They're calling it a pollution charge, an attempt to discourage
people from owning gas guzzlers, and its done on engine size rather than an
equivalent of what we pay for road fund licence. Funny that it's a pollution
charge when the car is stationary...
By the way, any ideas on emissions for our HDJ80 4.2 turbo engines...?

If you mean CO2: according to http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/ the
manual 24 valve is 292 g/km and the auto is 282g/km, which I find
surprising as I'd have thought it would be the other way round.
I should think those figures are for the 100 series since I think they
only started measuring in around 2000, but I don't suppose the 80 series
is very different.
If you mean CO, NOx, etc I don't know where you'd get that data. MoT
testing station maybe?

Hi Jeremy
The 80 I don't know but the HJ60 I imported last year from UK made in
the rigorous import inspection a maximum of 260g CO2/km. They made
several attempts cause they couldn't believe that a 22 year old car
did better than lot of modern stuff. And I'm revising the injection
system cause I know that 60's can easily make values below 200 g/CO2
km.
So the hype regarding changing cars every 2-3 years to have the best
anti-pollution technology is a marketing myth especially if you take
into account the CO2 used building the car.
I would also would like to know the usual values of an 80.

Hi Jeremy,
I am amzed that a local council is legally allowed to do that - I am sure
you could take them to court for unfair discrimination or something ;-)

I've not looked into it but I think all London boroughs have had a talking
to from Mayor Ken and that it is all part of a Transport for London
initiative. Ken promotes himself as green but at the same time is
self-confessed anti cyclist, although cycling has improved immeasurably in
the last few years. He hates us lot though...
I'll see what I can find out.
